Annoying EQ ProblemsFollow

I bought Everquest Trilogy yesterday and installed it last night. It ran the auto-updater and downloaded all the updated files. Here's the problem, whenever I try to play the program runs for about 15-20 sec and I hear a sound telling me that an error message has popped up. However, since I can't minimize EQ, I can't see what it says. I used task manager and it has a title saying "Everquest EQMAIN.DLL Error". I went on the website and did what it said, deleted the required files and updated to DirectX9. I don't know what this was supposed to do, since when I run EQ again the auto-updater just re-downloads the deleted files.

I have no idea how I am supposed to fix this, please help me if you can.

You could try all the standard stuff..

1) Disable any Antivirus software or personal firewall you're running. (You can always re-enable it if this isn't the problem)

2) Check for any updates to Windows that you may not have.(http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) You don't say which version of Windows you're running.

3) Check that you have the latest versions of your video card and sound card drivers. (Go to the manufacturers website).

4) Make sure that you don't have more than one version of EQ running - check with Taskman or restart your computer. (I once got this message when I accidently ran the patcher up twice, simultaneously).

What actually happens with the program? Does it stop functioning?

I am using Windows XP. As to what happens to EQ when the error pops up, it just freezes. The mouse pointer stops and I can't esc out of it. My whole computer doesn't freeze up, because once I ctrl+alt+del out and EQ closes, everything is running fine.

I think it might be something with my video drivers. I went to the website, but I am hopelessly lost on where to find what I must download. If any more computer knowledgable people could help me out, I would be most appreciative.

According to my DirectX Diag tool, my video device is ATI Radeon IGP 320M. The driver is gives me is ati2dvag.dll and the version is 6.13.0010.6094

It's a notebook/laptop?

Makes things a touch trickier.

Has the drivers.

I would caution you to make adequate backups prior to installing video drivers. Also worth a try is...

Which will shutdown every other app on your system. Other than that, Sony's tech support can be useful. They can also be a total waste of space, so YMMV.
