EQ - Mouse wheel not working in gameFollow

#1 Jan 23 2004 at 2:41 PM Rating: Good
I had to purchase a new mouse. Since the town I live in SUCKS the only optical scroll mouse I could find was a Compaq. Yeah yeah, I know...

Anyway, it works wonderful in Windows XP. No problems at all. However, in EQ the scroll won't work. The main problem with this is that when trying to use the map feature, I can't zoom in and out, making the map useless.

I checked all my setting is EQ ... wheel is active. Checked my setting in Windows ... they appear to be fine. The mouse works fine otherwise in EQ.

Any ideas?

On a more personal note, can anyone tell me why in the hell after 7 months I started to play this goddamn game again?

Try installing the generic microsoft mouse driver for it, see if that fixes the issue.

Does the scroll mouse work with the chat window?

hmmmmmm. yes. of course. and where will I find this generic mouse driver?

no, it doesn't work on the chat window either. I've come to the conclusion that my computer just hates my guts, and therefore will never work right. I'm also going link dead now at 7:04pm every night, instead of 9:04pm. I honestly give up on that problem.

And you didn't answer my other question. /cry

I can sympathise with you, Angua. My trusty six year old Logitech mouse finally started to crap out on me so I bought some IBM Optical mouse a few days ago (mostly because the shape most closely resembled my old one). Scroll wheel works dandy in Windows and doesn't do a damn thing in EQ. I can live without it in the chat window, but zooming on the maps using those little +/- buttons is driving me batty.

Generic mouse driver is on the winXP cd. I've never had a problem with my microsoft intellimouse, and I have not heared of a widespread problem with this, but let me look into it..

and to answer your second question, it's because this game is bloody addictive.

edit: found a fix for the logitech ones:

or you can go to start:settings:controll panel: system tools, device manager, nuke the mouse, go to add/remove hardware, manually install the generic ps2 driver from the windows XP cd.

Update to this. My mouse was occassionally not working on bootup (requiring another boot) and one day I got annoyed and changed the plug on it. It's a USB mouse but was attached to the serial mouse port via an adapter that came with it. I put it in one the the USB ports and -- voila! -- the wheel now works in EQ. Of course now the thumb button, programmed to minimize windows, doesn't work and serves as a "Back" button in IE, but whatever. I'll take what I can get.
