Hi...lvl 50 drg skillin up polearm here. I dont have much gil to pay for rdm or whm spells. So would blu be a better/cheaper alternative to that?(I've not done the limit breaks yet other than LB1)

Also..i'm currently skilling up in yuhtunga jungle..my polearm is 87. Where should I go next..and after that till i've gotten it to a good level. (reason why I have it so low is a friend let me get into a aby xp party. I dont have enough cruor though to just get into another.)

So along with all of that...where can I level at my level? :D solo and gov's :P

Blue Mage makes for a great solo subjob for Dragoon, since it offers several spells with short cast and recast times as well as low MP costs for the sake of triggering Healing Breath. Not only that, it also offers a very good buff in the form of Cocoon, which is a 50% increase to your defense and against fodder mobs offers a noticeable decrease to the damage taken. However, a downside to Blue Mage as a sub job is that unlike Red Mage, none of the spells you're going to be using for Healing Breath trigger can be cast on yourself. Whereas /RDM has the self-target elemental Bar-spells that they can spam on themselves without attacking a mob, /BLU's common trigger spells (Foot Kick, Power Attack, etc) all target the mob, and thus aren't good to use when recovering from a battle. You can use Cocoon, Pollen, or Wild Carrot to trigger Healing Breath outside of battle, but Cocoon isn't something you can spam quickly, and Pollen or Wild Carrot might raise your HP level high enough to jump past the trigger level.

Most Red Mage spells that you'd be using as a subjob are fairly cheap though, at least the ones for early on around your level. If you take Red Mage to 49 for a viable solo sub through to 99 Dragoon, you may run into snags in regards to Phalanx, but that's about it, and at your current Dragoon level, you and a couple other people could do the Waughroon Shrine BCNM 40 for gil rewards as well as the aforementioned Phalanx. Dragoon is a good job for those, and there is enough gil rewards from that, that you'll likely not have much trouble getting assistance with it.

After Yuhtunga, you can probably both exp and skill up in Garlaige Citadel doing page 2 till about 56 or so, or do Crawlers' Nest till 57. Given the progression of mob levels and books, one could argue that you could stay in Crawlers' Nest a good deal longer after 57, jumping to page 4 all the way to level 70.

oh okay, thank you so much for the helpful info! :) I took these 2 sets from a thread somewhere in these forums...are these sets still good to use? (I just copied and pasted it)

foot kick (5 mp trigger)
power attack (5 mp trigger, use if foot kick is down)
cocoon (the whole reason /blu is good)
wild oats (for pulling)
head **** (against mage types, to interrupt casting via knockback)
wild carrot (backup cure in case wyvern dies or I want to fill up HP but I'm above trigger)
bludgeon (str)
pinecone bomb (str)
bomb toss (str)
blastbomb (str)
battle dance (dex)

That 5 str, 4 dex, 3, vit, and 15 hp. Pretty different from bsphil's setup, which is why I recommend to anyone leveling blu that they get ALL their spells.
Blu is a very versatile job (and a somewhat versatile sub), and if you limit yourself to 1 play style, you're missing half the benefit.

Another example would be:

power attack
head ****
cocoon
pollen
healing breeze
wild carrot
Blood Drain
Soporific
Death Ray
Digest
Queasyshroom

Which gives you auto-regen and +25 MP at a cost of -5 HP. That's 5 more HB triggers for if you're playing without refresh of any kind.

Though I haven't actually used /blu for a long while, those spell setups are more or less what I'd use.
