Hi...

So I'm not new to FFXI as I have PLD and NIN both at 75, and most other jobs 50+. But I'm trying out my SAM again after a long break and was curious what the formulas people are (like fSTR) referencing are and how they play into gear.

Can someone explain what they are and what significance they have?

Also, I'm currently level 45 and this is the gear I have - is there anything obvious I should replace or get soon?

TP Gear:

Weapon - Magoroku
Grip - Disciple Grip
Ammo - Civet Sachet
Head - Luisant Salade
Neck - Peacock Charm
Ears - Beetle Earring +1
Body - Luisant Haubert
Hands - O. Kote
Ring1 - Rajas Ring
Ring2 - Woodsman Ring
Back - Exactitude Mantle +1
Waist - Tilt Belt (also have Vanguards, but haven't swapped it in really yet)
Legs - Luisant Brayettes
Feet - Fuma Kayahan

For WS I swap in:

Ogygos's Bracelets
Savage Gaiters

The examples listed seem to go down as level increases, is that expected? And the highest WSC you can get is 1.0 effectively? Clearly the calculations change depending on what you're fighting, so I guess I'm a little fuzzy on how to use this to know what gear to choose or when to load out STR (or other attr).

Also - is there a known-good food for this level? My ACC is alright, so I've just been using Mithkabobs/Chiefkabobs so far.

Last question: What is a "5 hit build" etc with regards to Store TP? Does that refer to gaining 100% TP in 5 hits? Is that the new favorite type of loadout?

The highest alpha modifier on WSC you get get is 100%, WSC itself can go much higher. The WSC stat multiplier depends on which WS you use, the alpha multiplier depends on what level you are.

For example, with 150 STR using gekko @lv 75.
gekko WS mod: 75% STR
lv75 alpha mod: 83% of WS mod

WSC= floor(alpha*floor(WS mod*STR))
WSC= floor(.83*floor(.75*150))
WSC= floor(.83*floor(112.5))
WSC= floor(.83*112)
WSC= floor(92.96)
WSC= 92


you should still use marinara pizza/rice dumplings for acc+atk
people make calculators for situations, but things change soo much depending on what you're fighting that they're not all that useful.
It's WS+4 melee hits until next WS. The only reason to have a 5-hit build instead of a 6-hit currently is because you have a COR using SAM roll or are using a 480+ delay weapon. Otherwise you have to give up too many other stats for sTP and end up hurting yourself overall. You don't really need to worry about X-hit builds are the point in the game you're at, it's generally better to use +dmg stats over sTP until 72+.
