Weapon merits...Follow

My main job is PLD, and I have both Sword and Shield merits capped, which leaves me only 8 points left to distribute. How should I split those between GK and Polearm? I used to have all 8 put into GK, but I'm seeing more and more info suggesting that polearm is good for more than birds.

My acc build isn't top notch just yet, and I notice myself whiffing on birds with polearm a lot, even with crab sushi, although my pentas usually seem reasonably powerful. With GK, however, I do fine eating meat against birds.

Also, can anyone point me to the numbers behind when/why to use polearm?

I forgot to mention: sure I consider my main job PLD, but my endgame shell usually has me come SAM. I'm usually PLD for my social shell though, with whom I do a few endgame events.

Thanks for the help. I'll stick with my GK merits.

Edit: Should I maybe sacrifice my swift belt for something like potent (or should I go camp a virtuoso?) for TP, since my hit rate with polearm seems to be crap? That's really the only easy change I can make without doing some massive saving for something like PCC.

Here's my current polearm TP loadout:

Engetsuto / Pole / * / Tiphia
Walmart / Chiv Chain / Brutal / Fowling
Hauby / Hachi / Ulthalam's / Rajas
Forager's / Swift / AF +1 / Fuma

Like I said, nothing really special. I'm in the process of getting some kitty pants, and when I do I'll probably switch from pole grip to rose strap.
