SAM/DNC = better overall survivability, but can't take high damage.
SAM/NIN = need healer, but can be very efficient if you're good juggling ichi>ni>3rdEye

SAM/DNC is better in general.

/DNC is for smallish-medium stuff by yourself
/NIN is for high level stuff and mobs w/ single target magic or nasty tp moves w/ a group

aka: /DNC is better for "solo" while /NIN is better for "tanking"

Having NIN 75 aswell I rarely "Solo" on Sam, So Sam/Nin serves me best for things I need to stay alive / tank in. Hagun ENM being one were /dnc would be a waste and /nin is a must

Well the question is (For Solo) so in that case /DNC without a doubt but hopefully you have both options available because you will need /NIN alot. Just not for solo. The /DNC sub will allow you to do alot of fun solo'n with out much risk of getting raped, as long as you know what you can handle. SAM/DNC great for solo steelshells for skillups or playing around at cape terrigan. SAM/NIN great in party situations like nyzul, dynamis, assaults, ect.

Mob type will play a huge role. Lie someone mentioned, any BLM mob, you definitely want to go /nin to absorb that damage. But for most things, a SAM/DNC with soboro and a quality evasion build and is pretty **** hard to kill. The TP gain from soboro makes having TP a non-issue. You can WS quite frequently and still regain TP to cure yourself. I used to go SAM/DNC for he T1 assault where you take a SMN and try pop the right chest. I'd do that in case of fish aggro. Those fish are absolutely brutal. It took a lot of effort but I was able to hold one of them for like 8 minutes without any help.

Another example: while skilling parry in Boyahda, I was able to hold 2 EM mandys at once. Also able to hold a T steelshell and a EM steelshell at once.... without soboro (tomoe), without evasion gear (actually had huaby on for -eva). SAM/DNC is just an attempt to outlast whatever it is you're fighting. With soboro and merited meditate, plus riding seigan/third eye and evasion gear, it takes a ton of dmg to hurt a SAM/DNC faster than it can heal itself.

That being said, /ni > third eye > /ichi is just so easy lol. Both are awesome soloers.

In my experience SAM/DNC is very good for things like campaign, and EP-T mobs that don't have a "bad" TP move.

In campaign, if you keep track of the hasso/seigan timers you can pretty much never die*, but, it takes some concentration. Use Hasso for WS, use Seigan/Third Eye so you can throw some Cure Waltzes on yourself, then Drain Samba II and Steps are all it takes to maintain your health during the battle.

For things like FoV mobs (ex. Cape Terrigan), SAM/DNC is also very good, especially for EP-T mobs. Where it DOESN'T do so well is on mobs like Manticores, where some of those TP moves will have you spending all of your TP on healing and not on WS's.

*Except for BLM-type mobs, then you will die--alot.

Basically it comes down to your playstyle and how well you do with whatever subjob you choose. I personally dislike /nin, but that doesn't mean it isn't good, and you WILL find that /nin will do miles better than any other subjob for certain situations.

Grab mob -> fulltime hasso, spend most of your time spamming cure/steps = massive win in campaign b/c you get points for taking damage, healing, debuffing, and dealing dmg.

i tried desperate flourish on a couple NM solos as NIN (ex. Bune), and it never had any effect. What are things it actually works on as /DNC?

I've used it to run away from sharks in sea.

If you have Soboro and /DNC you will last a lot longer. (Also, don't wear "Double Attack" gear with Soboro, it might cause you to hit twice instead of three times)
