Pent, Kaku, and I started playing casually again recently (although they never post anymore), you know you want to too! :P
FFXIV looks sweet, hopefully SE learns from the mistakes they've made in FFXI. All of my current and past LS buddies are planning on starting together on it, so I'm pretty psyched!
Big changes in the past year or two:
4DEX= 3acc for 2handers
4STR= 3atk for 2handers
YGK get huge acc and atk bonuses making them perform very well against high level sh*t
everyone and their mother plays SAM now
DRG is beefy now
We got a couple minor pieces of gear, Nuevo Corsolete (the one you get to select stats for from list) is decentish for some starter/mid SAM builds but probably better used for other jobs.
They added JA: Sekkanoki which lets us WS at any tp level but only use 100% for simple self-SC, Hagun doesn't work quite right with it though
hasso/seigan/Cat2 merits existed before you quit right?
SE reveled our mythic weapon, kogarasumaru, and it is mediocre and harder to get than Relic (why I quit)
We got a new WS- Tachi:Rana (3 hits, chains w/ gekko for darkness) which is also pretty mediocre dmg wise

Ah, I plan to come back a few months before FFXIV if it looks even halfway playable, just to reconnect with my LS buds and meet some of the people that joined since I left. Currently some of them seem reticent to leave FFXI but I hope that they'll transfer over with me. I'll probably also catch up on the WotG story. Will definitely be leaving FFXI for XIV though. I hope to be playing it with my two brothers.

Ah well, there isn't much hope of them adding something that would pull me back to FFXI for an indeterminite length of time. A Mime job.

I've been wishing for Mime for a long time as well. I read in an interview that they brought the idea up in development (along with Viking) but didn't know how they'd make it work. Hell, I came up with a great Mime concept in a couple of days. Granted, I'm pretty great like that.
Anyway, I'll still be planning to use a Samurai-like character in 14 for now.
