Has nin changed much since WoG?Follow

Im returning from wog release and with new levelcap and abyssea I'm wondering how ninja has changed. I forgot all my macros, what abilities to use, what sets of gear to use(Eva,Jin macro etc..). I was 75 and quit shortly after. Just wondering the following

What will I do in abyssea as nin/what to look for.
Are ninjas still desired as tanks?
What kind of gear sets do we aim for now?
What are the major changes to the class itself?
And has tanking changed much in terms of the ninjitsu used(elemental and rebuffs for hate)?

Any tips or Information, or links to guide me in the right direction would be awesome. Thanks in advance!!

Whhile leveling up to 90 stay with /WAR - Also, check the General forums guides on 'new to Abyssea'. Its to long to go into here, trheres also many many threads on the general forum about returning players and abyssea.

Ninja's and Monk's are the desired tanks, I'd say more or less equally.

Iga Garb set (the +2 being top of the range

Tbh there arn't many, its just certain atma's in abyssea give jobs insane crit rate's and Crit hit dmg+ rates that NIN is one of the top dogs due to the speed of the job. Also, Katan'a arn't limited to Senj/Perdu anymore - theres a wealth of weapons- Check out Trial of the Magians, you can also check wiki for Kamome, Kogara, Twilight Knife and more

Our de-buffs are just as great as they were at 75, and you can make nice Nuke set dropping 600DMG+ Ni spells, but out tanking comes from DMG dealing. The foundations of NIN right now however are Atma and Abyssite - might want to check them out.

What type of gear sets do I need going in at 75?
I was using during WoG

Jin(str/dex/acc?)
Eva
Dd(haste/acc?)
Elemental ninjitsu (?)(didn't have this then)

I don't have any of the new gear, and I read am was looking on the ah and seen there was a set of gear that can be picked up cheap?

Theres be 4( I think 4) new Ichi spells added, but there are tool bags now that cover all debuffing ninjitsu, all self enhancing ninjitsu, and all elemental damaging ninjitsu. Just look for them on the AH. Same gear sets for Jin apply. At 78 theres a set of gear with a few nice pieces in it - Aurore Doublet Set and its practically free (You can just buy it withy Cruor (the abyssea currency) that you wqould of gathered after 1 exp party.

Those sets would be good to have. And probably a -PDT set as well.

Aurore set is pretty cheap, but also pretty meh. Pants are good if you don't have Byakko's Haidate. Other than that, I stuck with mostly old gear until I got Empyrean +1.

How important is the elemental ninjitsu now. I know there wasn't much emphasis on it when I last played. But seeing the damage it does now with mb/int gear/merits has made me wonder. Just wondering before I put time into obtaining the gear/merits/Atma. In a dd/tank perspective.

The elemental ninjutsu is really nice to have as a supplement in a DD role. By that I mean really in situations where you would want to build azure or are up against physical resistant/absorb mobs. In decent sized groups you'll almost always have a significant source of magic damage anyway. So from that perspective, I'd work on getting your other sets up to par before worrying about elemental sets.

One set missing from that list is your hybrid set. If you do Magian evasion katanas there will be much less need for a "full" evasion set. Nearly 50 evasion in the weapon slots will free up other slots to keep haste in rather than sacrificing all DD stats to evasion. Especially in Abyssea, your ACC will be high enough that you won't notice the penalty from using Yonin as well. So with just Yonin and Magian eva katanas you're at ~60-80 more evasion or 30%-40% better evasion rate than your base stats (if you're above the floor and below the cap).

Ugly-pink-body and ugly-pink-feet can be nice to have in a hybrid set as there is some evasion and DD stats on both. Iga neckpiece is almost a full-time piece now. Your mileage may vary.

Subtle Blow in a couple slots may be useful. In Aby, you'll likely have on GH atma for the crit rate bonus and the 50 AGI will get you some more subtle blow and a little more evasion. Outside Aby, things like Osode and Seiryu's Kote for a chunk of AGI help subtle blow even more than inside. Which is good news since you may already have these pieces.

The only time I wear my max evasion set anymore is for an ichi cast against a really accurate mob or something I can't blind.

For Jin, it's really just STR/DEX/ATK rather than ACC. Of course there's caveats to that for evasive mobs, but double-dipping from 2DEX=1ACC tends to get you pretty close to the cap when you've got Razed Ruins and are stacking DEX for secondary mods already. Notable exceptions are your DA/TA pieces. Epona's, Aethling, Brutal mostly.

Thought I could ask this here: Sam is my main job, but having fun with ninja. Have an old senji sitting in my mog house, are those useful still? Or outdated now?

You mean the KSNM weapon that needs WS points to unlock higher damage? There's plenty of options at 76+ that are better than it. It'll probably serve fine as a placeholder until you can get and equip Kamome, elemental TotM katanas (either wind path for evasion or fire path for STR and attack), or even some AH katanas with better DPS than Senjuinrikio.
