Just shy of two years, I know a lot has changed but I'm looking for any helpful info on where to get started. I've been looking through a lot of posts and trying visualize the info I'm reading about Abyssea but am kind of lost.

At the time I quit I had some okay gear (still had not acquired B. Haidate, sigh), listed here:

http://www.ffxiah.com/item-sets/38737

At the time the birds in ToAU were the hotness for XP and people were just getting bant from copying their salvage drops. Any tips on what I should be doing equipment wise, where to level (4 jobs at 75) and major changes to watch for would be appreciated. Will be posting this in the other job forums as well.

Thanks!

A lot of that gear is still decent at 90. The most important thing you can do is get into Abyssea, start building up a cache of traverser stones. If you can get into a Dominion party (usually Aby Ule or Altep but sometimes Grau) that is the fastest way to get from 75 to 90. Hang out in Jeuno and watch for zone boss, atma, and caturae shouts. You'll want to get all those done. If I was in your shoes I would prioritize thusly:

- buy all three abyssea expansions
- start Abyssea questline so your stone cache starts accumulating
- get 1-2 jobs to 90
- get a zone boss clear for a second lunar abyssite (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Lunar_Abyssite)
- get some decent atma: some NIN atma are razed ruins, gnarled horn, sanguine scythe, cloak and dagger, siren shadow, alpha & omega, voracious violet (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Atma)
- start working on a pair of EVA sekka +2 (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Magian_Trials)
- squeeze in more zone boss clears (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Abyssea_Main_Quests) and caturae kills (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Caturae) to unlock third lunar abyssite, discernment abyssite, and shinryu fight
- work on merit and furtherance abyssite quests and mob kills (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Abyssite)
- finish other jobs to 90, start working on seals for AF3 upgrades, upgrade the rest of your gear, etc.

As far as NIN is concerned, if you get the following:
- 4-5/6 merit abyssites
- 2-3/3 furtherance abyssites
- 2x eva sekka +2
- razed ruins, gnarled horn
- near capped eva/katana skill
- decent eva gear set

You can do pretty much anything any other NIN inside abyssea can do.

Depending on how "lowman" your abyssea group is, and what other jobs you have leveled, a major function for ninja is to use elemental weapon skills on various NMs. Therefore you'll want to skill great katana up to tachi: koki, sword up to seraph blade, dagger up to energy drain, and club up to seraph strike.

wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Abyssea#Red_Weakness for more info.

Looks like I have some catching up to do. Thanks for the replies! That was exactly what I was looking for. I am not looking forward to getting so many of those magian weapons for all my jobs but I'll be damned if they aren't some sweet pieces of gear.

Just so I understand the bosses correctly, you'll want to carry around 4 different weapons types (and have them leveled high enough to hit consistently) with you when taking on VNMs and starting eliminating possibilities by WSing with them right off the bat? It mentions getting hints to a degree.

Luckily I think GK is the only one I need to level up for this. Wonderfully useful info, thanks again!

For red procs, you don't really need much skill (just enough to unlock the weapon skill), you just need TP. If you can TP up from regain or meditate or whatever that is good enough. If your only purpose in the party is proc'ing (sometimes the case for boss/atma pick-up runs) then you can gimp it up as /SAM with some regain atma and not feel like a noob.

They are magical WSs so they can't miss. I think only one of them can miss (shadow of death maybe?).

After you clear all zone bosses and caturae you get an abyssite of discernment which gives you hints for what the weakness triggers are. For example, you try Blade: Ei, it may say the NM is weak to fire elemental WSs, then you know the red proc WS must be Red Lotus Blade.

well you can skill up to the ws but don't really expect to gain any tps if u don't have the atma of the sea daughter, since VV 2tp/tic takes ages to get a ws ready, and you're gonna miss A LOT, expecially on nms
moreover there are way more ws that you can use as nin/war: blade ei, cyclone, energy drain, red lotus blade, seraph blade, seraph strike, tachi jinpu, tachi koki, earth crusher, and finally raiden thrust (if u have the polearm from the halloween event)
you get also a lot of usefull ws for blue procs
i mostly duo in abyssea and i have to say red is nearly never an issue (with a blm friend you only miss shadow of death) and blu procs can be also achieved quite often
tha being said, if you're /dnc, which is the best sub for aby low man (stun usually makes the difference between victory and defeat), you will just be able to use great katana, katana and dagger
i usually farm triggers nin/war then come back for nasty nms with /dnc
