Just wondered if anyone has had success solo-ing this treant? I'm thiking might just be better to bring a WHM and go at it mnk/thf durin night time for blue!!, but if its a fairly do-able solo on NIN then i'd prefer to do it that way.

For some reason, the sexyness of this neck seemed to slip by me.

Also, what would be better for Jin - the breeze gorget or the Erimaki?

Ive had success soloing it on many occasions, but I can tell you it is absolutely not worth it to try w/o blue. The drop rate is horrid at best. I did run into some trouble a few times on solo as Nin/Dnc because he is immune or supremely resistant to stun in via the spell or violent flourish. An ill timed Thundaga + the annoying TP move that causes him to hit x3 on every melee hit can spell disaster very easily if your EVA set isn't top notch.

My suggestion is (and this is what I did) start the fight with a few weaponskills until you determine the weapon needed (assuming you have Discernment) and promptly turn and evade w/o feeding TP until you get the proper job to come proc blue. I Evaded him easily w/o getting hit for 15 minutes while I searched the zone and Port Jeuno for a RNG to come proc for me. I ended up asking a random stranger to come proc and they were very happy to oblige. You can also offer a reward which I did but he refused (Alkow, Alexander server, nice guy). I went 0/14 w/o blue proc. The RNG came on my last attempt, procced blue, and got full drops. To be safe, a healer of any kind to assist is recommended just in case Gangley Gean is in a bad mood. (some fights were WAY easy, some were literally down to red HP and no TP to finish)

Good luck!

He is not terrible solo. Sometimes he can get spam happy with spells though, so be careful what you do with your TP. Might want echo drops as well so you don't blow your waltz timers removing silence.

I went 1/2 on the drop without any blue proc :P First time I fought him was duo and it actually seemed worse for some reason. Second time, I decided to run through pop area as I was waiting for T2VNM to pop, he was up, killed solo on /DNC and got drop. This was basically the luckiest half hour in game I've ever had: I got Iga Neck, Charis Neck (+ atma from Khalamari), and T2 --> T3 VNM upgrade, all in the span of 30 minutes. Also got a Bakka claim but died b/c his spikes are fail. Need /RDM for that guy I guess.

Gorget wins. Jin has an ftp mod of 1.0 so +0.1 ftp is going to be worth a lot more than 2% critical damage.

Though it isn't quite THAT simple, that's pretty correct. The .1 fTP only applies to first hit, and is about 10% increase there. On a 4 hit ws, that brings it down to ~2.5%, and ~2% on 5 hit.

So with enough hits and all crits the neck could go higher... but it would have to be 6 hit with every single hit as a crit...

At first glance anyway. I haven't really mathed it out appropriately.

Overall he's really easy if you have a decent evasion set, but as others have said, things do have the potential to get crazy if he's in a pissy mood. But it's SO much better to just get a healer and get someone to proc for you. I'm somewhere in the vacinity of 0/30ish+. I've given up and just gonna have a buddy come Whm and I'm gonna Mnk/War it up during blunt time since I have access to 14/15 of those WS's.

So taking the gorget will add around 2.5% dmg to a 4HIT-jin, which rapidly decreases the more hits that are landed (and there are high chances of multple hits with jin now we sit on 15-20% DA, 15%TA and 3QA if using TKnife,) in abyssea with a ~70% crit rate I'd put my money on Iga neck winning easily? Also, I'm using thunder belt for ws which brings gorgets maximum potential down to a 2.25% increase.

Also, if the first hit doen't crit but others do then that lowers gorgets dmg even more (unless fewer hits crit then non-crit) - seems like a bit of a wash to me, but i'll be sticking to iga neck once i gt it.

soloed several times, triggered 3 times blue !! however i got the drop only when i didn't trigger....
only time i got the neck with blue trigger was when i was thf helping a friend, i really think it has a stinky drop rate, i'd bring a thf with me if i were in your shoes
moreover i noticed the lvl it can spawn varies greatly, once i claim it 3 times in a row, the first time it was just slacing, the second time it started hitting harder, the third time i died because he was ONLY spamming sleepga stunga and ga3, and the dmg was fairly higher than before, it also had a really higher acc
anyway it's not a big deal, it just doesn't like to drop

If he's going to kill you it's going to be from the spells, I typically fight him in full DD gear with evasion katanas. In that setup, with straight fighting, shadows are easy to keep up as his accuracy isn't the best, it's when he gets on a -ga binge that makes him trouble. One thing to note, if you have Apocalypse Atma and he kills you, don't expect to get away with a zombie kill, he can hit hard enough to one-shot you while weakened.
