I was thinking of something along the lines of making shurikens useful. For instance, everytime you weaponskill, there is a chance for shuriken to land (if you have Shurikens equiped)to add to the weaponskill dmg/tp based on the amount of remaining shadows. For each shadow up, the rate a shuriken could land, is 5%, with a base rate of 5% with no shadows. For example, 2 shadows up and u have 15% chance to land up to 2 shurikens, 4 and you have 25% chance to land up to 4 shurikens (of course youd factor in throwing skill and ranged acc). Thoughts everyone?

Automatic-sange without removing your shadows, but with a low proc rate?

It's probably better than regular sange, but is it good enough to say, lose +12 attack permanently?

Also, it adds another expense for ninja. Do we really need more ways to blow through gil?
Factoring ranged attack/accuracy would play against the idea: the more ranged attack/accuracy gear you wear when WSing (to get that extra oomph on the potential shuriken auto-throw), the less WS damage you deal. It would give piece with +ACC / +ATK / + R.ACC some reason to exist (I'm looking at you, Koga chainmail).

It sounds to me like a "double attack on WS only" thing. Nothing that makes me really excited, but I'd take any extra damage.

I was thinking that SE could implement a way for shuriken ammo to be infinite and maybe... just a random thought (must be recharged/resupplied every tally on sunday and uses up CP/AN/IS based on a fraction of amount of times it was activated for amount each activation was for or the ability is grayed out kinda like a cool down timer til you can pay for it with whatever points). This way it would eliminate the need to constantly buy/craft shuriken and stick to the Ninja theme. The activation rate can be a passive trait so that you can gain tp (maybe even meleeing as well as ws) much like that of a MNK with its random kick, but still have to pay for it some way. Honestly I tire of tanking and would like to DD, even if its Lolable. As for macroing in R.acc/R.atk gear for ws's you'd still want to keep with acc/atk , but some pieces of gear that come to mind are AF+1 Hands, snipers, Amemet +1. Apologies for the crappy sentence structure and lack of paragraphs/grammar.

All the good shurikens are ridiculously expensive and rare so it would be a ton of gil to actually acquire them to have for your WS. It's kind of like how shurikens can be awesome to TP in...except it just isn't realistic or affordable.

It's basically like an awkward reverse idea of jailer weapons since you're aiming to consume an ammo item for added damage/TP. There wouldn't be a large TP bonus to using it and it would require a ton of gear splits for what should have been a fairly consistent source of damage. I wouldn't want to be dropping bomblet for a chance to land a probably mediocre added attack only a quarter of the time at a large cost of gil.

If they did make it into a trait and you could actually acquire ammo you would then face the same odd hybrid gearing Lianda mentioned. Do you want to use any racc/ratk gear when you WS? If you do, you're further decreasing your melee average hits just for a fairly low proc rate throw. At least with DA even though you're using a slot for a low chance of an added 1 ftp hit it doesn't cost you gil.

If it could be used with a non-ammo throwing weapon that also offered decent stats and was based off melee acc/atk (or at least a substantial racc/ratk bonus), it could work. A chakrum version of a bomblet or bombcore that could have a chance to add a piercing ranged attack to your WS could provide decent bonuses.

Unfortunately, the closest SE would probably do would be a low proc rate with expensive ammo that would often miss.

You would still gear up normally for ws, but make a few minor changes, instead of foragers or cerberus mantle, you could use Amemet's +1. And what you would normally, maybe a sniper(+1) or 2, maybe use ohat, PCC if no breeze gorget etc. And like your idea they could add stat bonuses to the shuriken ammo whether it be for racc/ratk or towards acc/atk

I don't think that the auto-shuriken-throw thingy would really cement you out of tanking into DD, at all. It would proc in both stances, after all.

If you want to DD, then by all means DD.

Honestly, i would just prefer SE to make shuriken cheaper. I have capped throwing and a ton of portable gear from RNG. My presumption is that, the reason they arent cheaper is the same reason RNG cant stand in melee range and get full potential on ranged attacks anymore. Especially in the current climate of birds birds birds birds birds...

I agree completely. Ninja will almost always be expected to tank in xp party situations unless there's a PLD in party. And there was never an instance that I was in the same party as a PLD except an ls party, and the PLD was a waste of a slot because I would take hate with just melee dmg alone. Ive reluctantly accepted the role as tank, just wish there were more tanking options so that we could be strongly considered as designated DD (and not be a wasted slot)to xp parties or other functions like HNMS etc

. The idea is to make it so the shurikens are not hindering the tp gain from regular melee and making it a job trait so that it has chance to procure on regular hits to add dmg/tp at the end of attack round w/o increase of delay. Maybe they could remove the distance formula for the trait, but have sange and regular throwing of shuriken operate like normal ranged atks. It would be nice if 1 synth = a full stack of shuriken w/o hq and they toolbag shurikens to make it more reasonable to carry them around if you wanted to shuriken spam at bird camps or w/e.

My biggest issue with ninja is that we don't have a HNM WS, we have jin for merit lvl mobs but no solid WS to actually do dmg endgame. Kamu would be hella nice if it was dmg based on TP rather then acc down (I mean really SE 1 hit 50% STR mod and you put acc down...typical I guess).

also another thing that would benefit us and everyone who uses DW would be to allow weapons with crit +% count to total % of crits rather then each hand.

thats just my 2 cents, really luv the idea of throwing factoring into our melee like said KA.

When they gave us Kamu and plds atonement, they were trying to ensure pld had a place as a tank instead of ninja being the tank and pushing ninja more towards the soloing aspect of the job. I can tell you for certain that kamu has helped me out a great deal in alot of solo situations and that's exactly what they wanted.

Honestly, in most HNM situations, nin is going to be there as /drk and chances are, not meleeing at all, but -pdt/mdt poison/stun tanking. The problem is, in most HNM situations, our damage is pathetic, our accuracy is trash, and our debuffs tend to either stick for very very short periods of time, or just flat out get resisted.

I think the idea is somewhat sound, but i dont think i would want to give up a bomblet/bomb core for shuriken.

Giving up bombcore/bomblet would appear to be a big hit in the ammo slot, but SE could add melee and/or ranged stats to the shuriken. I'm sure it wouldn't be as good as bomblet/bombcore, but it definitely wouldn't be worse if you factor in the occasional shuriken thrown during your tp phase and then possible added dmg to ws's. I've also been thinking about a job ability that involves NIN shadows. For each shadow up increase acc/atk by 5% and maybe a reduction in evasion or TP.
