NIN to 49 with minimalsFollow

And so I thought I was done with NIN (to 37) until a very long off future where I actually felt like leveling it.

I need some opinions to see if it's fairly okay to take ninja to 49 the same way I did it 1-37, with little tool use except for shihei and invis and sneak tools. Or should I pony out the dough for some Ni element wheel tools and also work along my ninjutsu skills? This would also mean buying or trying to farm out some Ni scrolls.

Once I get it to 49 I'm not going to be looking at it again until who knows when, I'm just releveling it as a subjob.

You don't need to spin the wheel. In fact, with level sync you will probably be syncing down to East Ronfa [s] camp anyway. Just don't scrimp on your gear :P

Now that I didn't get lazy on! O.kotes, sarutobi kyahan, bounding boots, and empress hairpin all in check! And the other stuff.

I could craft just about all the status tools, but I hear more on nins using the ele wheel for keeping hate.

Good to know I don't have to push to extremes on nin again, after hearing about the eventual level cap raise I realized now I have to level a bunch of subs all over again! Nin running off all those consumables makes me go @_@

I recently leveled NIN from 37 to 49 solo (with a few epic duos!). I'm a perfectionist so I went ahead and farmed all the Ni scrolls and span the wheel as soon as I hit 40.

Despite the trauma of having to deal with so many inventory spaces being taken up, using them was perhaps the best fun ever. I ended up chain-nuking mobs in FoV for 100+ damage each time (subbing RDM) and the whole process went by very quickly. When I hit 48 I'd predictably run out of tools so I went and just meleed the last level down... and it took forever...

Anyway, my point is that it is indeed very possible to do it without all the tools, but it may take a lot longer to level it up. I had some really good gear, like the pieces you mention, and the melee side didn't impress me quite as much as the nuking side at that level range.

Not to mention Yonin makes those tools last a lot longer than you'd think (and you don't have to worry about the accuracy penalty either... I've never seen a decent challenge mob con high evasion! Haha!).

That, and I felt practically invincible on NIN. I didn't care what I fought. EM, T, VT, IT... It was really awesome to solo. I'm not sure how necessary spinning the wheel is in a party situation though, so I can't comment on that. :/

Good luck with it! :D

Makes the difference between parsing probably the lowest in the party, or parsing the highest (by a fairly wide margin).

Wheel is just delicious secks in anything you could possibly do between 40 and 50.
drk = 80 sam = 76
pld = 79 thf= 80
nin = 80 drg = 75
mnk = 76 war = 52

Retired for now ^ ***** you Abyssea. FFXIV woo eh..

40-50 NIN is the best DD in the game, bar none.

The wheel is the reason for that. Ninja is *very* painful to lv up to 37, but once you get to 40 the job suddenly seems fun.

When i had nin at those level, i actually went /rdm to tank stuff.

Either way, it shouldnt be too expensive to be spinning the wheel. You will only need to do it once or twice per mob too, truth be told. If you are doing any more, then you are likely fighting stuff too hard for your party.

^ Truth.

Spinning the wheel in the 40's was some of the most fun. I remember 1 party I had, people were like "why are you subbing RDM?"... until they saw me rape the parser.

Having said that, I don't think you need to do it, its just that much fun.

Thanks for your input everybody!

I decided to take a trip to Castle O. today to try saving myself a ton of gil from just buying out the scrolls, with much success! I got in and out of there in about 4 hours with all 6 Ni scrolls.

A little more research later, some running, some crafting, and some straight out buying when it was cheapest, I got everything set for casting a Ni wheel with minimal gil losses.

I'll be spinning the Wheel of Ni from 40+!

You probably didn't need to. 90% of your parties are likely to be sub-40 anyways unless you got out of your way to not get them. The only time I've ever used the Ni wheel was for BCNM40s, so I guess they might be good to have if you want to keep minimal gear for those.

I think that if you level NIN to 49 without spinning the wheel, you're not allowing yourself to have some of the most fun this game offers. There's nothing more fun than tanking a mob without having to sub warrior and doing 100 damage per nuke.

Sure it's expensive, but **** it is fun as ****.

Spinning the wheel is the only time I remember NIN hurting my wallet. Otherwise, it was underwhelming with cost.

I was, nonetheless, disappointed when I hit 55 and found that the wheel was bad against Colibri.

Also: Use your enfeebles. -30 acc and +25% slow on your enemy makes a huge difference.

Not to mention hate. Spamming enfeebles every time they're up (or even just once, in most exp situations) is a huge hate generator. CE and all that.

"Utsusemi Only" ninjas give everyone else a bad name. If you don't do the wheel (proportionately, it's probably a lot more expensive than it used to be, with npcs representing the 'minimum' cost), at least use hojo/kurayami.

I never bothered with Jubaku in parties, as it takes too long to cast. Wonderful for solo work, though.

So this is old but I'm going to semi-hijack as to not make a new thread. I'm in the same boat. Level cap increases are coming and while my NIN is already 42 from last subjob leveling fun, it needs to be higher for next increase.

Other than the wheel scrolls what gear is a must? I have done some camping for my SAM and THF which resulted in some R/E gear.

I have:

Bounding Boots, Empress Hairpin, Peacock Amulet, Rogetsurin, Ochimusha Kote, Rajas Ring, and Sarutobi Kyahan

So I have a good chunk of gear and I was thinking of getting the Iron Ram set instead at 45 instead of the Gi and miscellaneous items. I know it would be pretty close parse wise, any suggestions on gear or weapons?

I've checked out both ffxi wiki and this site for options, most seem a bit outdated and don't recommend items. Most just give what is possible to wear.

While I plan on only going to 49, who knows I may take it higher if I have fun.

Any help would be great, thanks!

Frankly, you're doing fine; you have enough good stuff not to need to worry about the stuff you don't have.
