Very new to FF and Monk ,what sub job should I choose? I'm thinking War.
I would agree. MNK/WAR, from what I've heard, is back in favour over /NIN since most of the things you'll fight in Abyssea (AKA most things you'll fight day-to-day @ 75+) have too many things that strip/ignore shadows. Shadows, if you don't know, is the spell Utsusemi from Ninja subjob which allows you to absorb 3 attacks. I would also consider Dancer when/if you have it unlocked. DNC subjob is good for doing things solo since it will provide you with some healing, the ability to stun enemies briefly to interrupt powerful/troublesome attacks, increase your attack speed and all that good stuff.

I would start with /dnc tbh. It brings utility that youre going to wish you had when youre lowmanning(pretty common in aby) and soloing. Stun, haste, heals and stealth. The stealth alone will be helpful, since as a new player youre not going to want to spend gil on oils/powders, and running around aby means stealthing a lot.
/war is great but not all that effective until you gear up and get the good atmas. You can /war and still be useful, but youll probably die a lot more. You may not always have a whm around.
I guess the real answer is, level all subs lol. But if it were me, id take care of dnc first.
