Boreas CestiFollow

Hi there, noobie Mnk here.

I recently hit 30 and decided to take a few days off to work on some of my gear in advance. After a day of camping I finally obtained my Boreas Cesti (/joy). I have read up on the stickys and Nilatai's Equipment guide say's these will last me all the way until lv.50.

Just to clarify does this mean that they are good enough that I should be using them all the way to 50? Or does it simply mean that they remain respectable upto 50 and no one would blame me if I didnt upgrade before that point, though I could if I wanted?

Sorry for being a Noob, I'm no good at all the damage forumlas and stuff. And 20 levels seems an aweful long time for a weapon to remain the best possible option (Though I wont complain if thats the case ^^). I just want to try and play this job as well as I possibly can and have all my upgrades ready in advance of leveling up.

I don't really have a comment on your question. Just wanted to respectfully say welcome to the community. I'm sure you will succeed if you continue to be curious and ask questions and seek information from all available sources. (and you read before you asked, so awesome and rare anymore)

Those equipment guides are okay, but not a bible if thats what your asking.

Its tricky to compare weapons for h2h because you have to look at the total dmg/dly

6/48 for borease is the top added to your base,
at 30:
base dmg of (93*.11+3)= 13.23 (round down to 13)
base dly of 380 (360 at 31,340 at 46)

So to compare any weapon, you need to look at (base + wpn dmg)/total delay, where larger numbers imply better weapon ratios.

EG 2 level 30 weapons

Borease (6/48) == 19/428 =0.044
hydro claws +1 (8/61) == 21/441= 0.048

So what ever weapon you look at, make sure if you are comparing borease to something, make sure you look at the level X borease, not the lvl 30 one when you got it.

Mythril claws +1 10/61 @ 40 == 26/421 ~ 0.061 (vs the 22/408 ~ 0.054 of borease)

So from those 2 weapons (hydro and mythril claws) I find it hard to say borease is the best till 50, or even best at 30 when you get it. It is definitely good and worth the weapon, and will probably be easier to get then the +1 of crafted items no one makes anymore.

Heres a rough eyeball estimate of the remaining weapons on the trip to 75.

Adargas+1 11/49 @47
Cross counters 19/96 @ 50
hades sainti 18/51 @70
destroyers 18/48 @ 73

After destroyers it gets hard to model weapons due to other effects like acc, crit, double atk etc and by 75 you can just use kinematics weapon comparison guide.

I cant say I've ever been affected by big number syndrome, so as long as they can keep up with the other options overall then I'm happy with that.

Also I dont think Additional Effects generate any emnity do they? So in theory, whilst the weapons are almost on par, I should be able to go all out a little more often with the Boreas Cesti, than I would be able to with a big number weapon?

Boreas are pretty great, but one notable downside is that the 100% additional effect will override Sambas. So you might want an alternative for /DNC solo or in a party with a DNC. But yeah, more or less they'll last you 20ish levels, taking you up to stuff like TM Hooks/+2.
