MNK Tanking?Follow

So I've been hearing a lot about MNK tanking ("All you need is a MNK and a WHM to beat anything in Abyssea"... or something along those lines), and was hoping someone could give me some info on what I'd need to do to get my MNK up to tanking standards (gear, atma, sub-job, etc..).

Thank you in advance.

All HP abyssites, Atma of the Gnarled Horn, Razed Ruins and anything for last (pref. Shinryu atma).

Gear is normal DD gear and the counter mantle, can mix it up with -pdt gear set when no shadows.

Sub job is dependant on mob, stuff that do a lot AoE and/or attack very fast (Chloris) you should be /war or sometimes /dnc. I mainly use /nin only when i need hint for yellow proc, but it's usefull on slow but heavy hitters.

All in all, counterstance up 100% of time, and try get AF2 boots for 10% more, that's about it once you got atmas.

All 6 Abbysites of Merit ( Hp/Mp increase)

Atmas:
Razed Ruins
one of the counter atmas ( I like Roaring Laughter personally)

3rd atma kinda depends on what you are fighting:

Impregnible Tower ( +hp and magic accuracy for /nin this is a good one until you get all the Merit abyssites)

The + 100 to a specific element atmas are good esp for low man, trying for my mnk body the +100 air on top of my wifes whm Barair and 5/5 shell5 makes the Garuda NM a joke.

Apoc atma is my normal default 3rd atma now, Triple attack, auto reraise and quick magic are all nice.

Gear

Relic feet are nice for the additional 10% to counter
U. Mantle is exceptional

Other than that I started with the default:
W turban, Shura Body, Melee Gloves +1, Byakko Haidate, Fumasete feet, Black Belt.
the old standard DD gear.

I upgraded this to
Tantra Head, Legs, Feet, working on body, (Garuda being stingy) for hands I have the +1, but still use the Melee gloves +1 for the extra Subtle blow, increased HP and + attack (I normally use pizza for food so accuracy seems capped without the hands and +1 hands on top of my faith torque don't reach the next +1 damage threshold, when I get +2 hands then I'll just have to play with them) (If you only have brown belt then may need the haste on hands)
Ammo - Tantra
ER - Brutal, Kemas
Rings - Raja, U. ring, thinking of buying a Mars Ring next time I see one, but thats just a luxury item

For sub jobs -
/nin until you get your Whm trained, Mnk tanks take damage, cure V and Cure VI are needed, but when you have 4500 HP, you laugh at 1000+ TP moves. Your WHM has to be trained that while you can achieve ~80%+ countering, TP moves and the hits that do get through will hurt.
/war if you trying for Procs, level up staff and Club and you can proc all but 1 Blue Proc during blunt hours.
/dnc - this is my preferred sub now, Curing waltz 3, haste samba, the ability to remove status effects if my whm is busy ( see cure 5-6), -evasion debuffs ( counter is based on accuracy so building up the -5 evasion steps is nice on longer fights, and my favorite Violent Flourish we have our own personal stun with this.

Weapon Skills - you'll want Ascetics Fury this is my bread and butter Weaponskill, with Razed Ruins the damage can be amazing, Victory Smite is even better but I'm assuming you starting from scratch.
