I am adding a few pieces that look nice for thf from the update from the .dat mines on bg.

Athos's Tabard:
DEF:63 DEX+15 AGI+15 Accuracy+7

(Possible Loki's killer, depends on crit dmg+ and whether it is worth losing sTP, my guess is yes.)

I guess my doubt on that piece for DE comes from just how awesome AF3+2 are. +1 STR/DEX on AF3+2 and 16 atk and 12 acc vs. 7 CHA.... I just don't know if I would actually use this for DE. For the new WS, solo I would definitely use it, TA I would still use AF1+1.

Not saying your wrong but check out the denali gameshes upgraded version versus the boots you have there. I think the denali upgrades would be better if I remember right. But the haste and accuracy on these make them better to tp in I guess.

Actually Melphina, I have been having some thoughts on a new haste set using the Denali +5 items.

Raider's head +2, Denali body/hands/legs, Goading belt would give 25% haste, Ocelohmah head +1 would give 26%. This would leave feet open for whatever. Also denali hands/legs have tons of evasion on them. I am sure that the sTP on Goading would give us a few options for gear, and Denali Body +5 has 3% DA/TA/QA all lumped together.

Seems that we got ahead of ourselves. The Nyzul gear was in the test server dats so everyone assumed nyzul update was this update. No such luck. We have to wait to really include any denali until later, so not really going to affect our gear choices right now.

I actually just bought 2 pairs of brego gloves. 1 set for my drg (straight up beats timarli) and 1 set for my lolMeleeRdm mule (yes its expensive. Im friggin TIRED of mule running slow in dusk and cant keep up on auto follow, or having to hit a macro to remove gloves every 5 seconds. I have enough to do dual boxing >< Worth every penny damnit!)

Anyway, i havent looked to close yet on how i can work glvoes into my TP set yet (currently 4/5 AF+homam feet is what i was using) but some good ideas here.

With native DW3 on our plate, it might be worth looking back at Nusku's sash. 4haste boots, Brego goves is 5 haste. If we pick up Oce.+1 hat or Zelus we can get 25-26 haste and the 5% DW from nusku's. 33% DW>38% DW is a smidge over 8% more atk speed. Loose 8dex, 3str, 16atk, 14acc, 3TA, set bonus-2 pieces. Eh now thats not sounding so good. Be good for a trash mobs set where acc is non-isue and atk is already very high.

We probably cant piece a set together that will funtion on high tier mobs with nuskus until denali makes an appearance. Until then, seems we have a lot to loose to swap haste around form the standard 4/5 AF+haste boots design :S

Oh, I know Nyzul Gear isn't here yet, I was just pointing out that it looks very attractive for a haste build. Comparing to the set that Melphina Positted, the body would give a much better TA/QA bonus than that belt.

Lets build a gear set around this new WS Extenerator. As I have not seen one yet. Lets assume 5/5 merits in Extenerator and use it unstacked or with TA-Extenerator.

Ear1: Altdorf's Earring

Ear2: Wilhelm's Earring

Ring1: Stormsoul Ring

Ring2: Stormsoul Ring

Neck: Moepapa Medal (Arctier's Torque same AGI but no DEX)

Hands: Brego Gloves (Alruna's Gloves have 9AGI but no STR and no acc. Athos's Gloves also look very very nice. But just like for the other Athos's pieces they are stupid rare.)

Back: Vimukti Mantle versus Aife's Mantle? Here its gets tricky. 25 attack versus 6 AGI and around 11 acc?)

Waist: Crudelis Belt (I see no good alternatives here)

Legs: Ambusher's Hose versus Heca legs? 10 AGI versus 20 attack and a bit of accuracy. Maybe you have some auguments on heca+1.

Feet: Raider's Poulaines +2 (Athos's Boots could beat it since they have 10 accuracy.)

Did I miss anything here? Major problem is the lack off accuracy if you stack AGI.
What is the attack to AGI ratio for a 100% AGI mod? Is it 5 attack is 1AGI? Or higher?

Hands can be either brego or skadi depending on eva of mob, but 1st hit of all WS have naturally high acc, so might lean towards skadi a bit. Mob dependant.

Feet: Same deal with the acc. Mob dependant.

If mob is very very hard, good ol anguinus should do wonderfully ssince our current agi gear is severely lacking in both acc and atk.

I believe it may be worth touching base on aeolian edge build again since a lot of armor has come out in the past few updates.

Optimal Aeolian Edge build

Martial Knife mainhand/tp bonus fusetto +2 or +3 offhand (300% tp mod at 100% tp yes please)

Chimera Hairpin -- Wind Magic Attack bonus + 6 (int +3)
Stoicheion Medal -- Magic Attack Bonus + 8, Magic Accuracy +2 (new this update; all jobs and doesn't require any form of latent activation. Very versatile piece for all jobs)
Novio Earring -- Magic Attack Bonus + 7
Hecate's Earring -- Magic Attack Bonus + 6
Moldavite Earring -- Magic Attack Bonus +5 (I use the economy combo hecate's/moldy myself rather than shelling out for a novio)
Loki's Kaftan/Mirke Wardecors -- 11 dex or 5 dex and Magic Attack Bonus +4, Magic Accuracy +4 (mirke is the only MaB choice here, but it does exist if you have no other use for ACP body. Same as raiders below lokis works fine)
Raiders gloves +2/Athos's Gloves -- 8 dex or Elemental weaponskill bonus on wind day (very situational but interesting to consider. Raider's +2 works just fine tbh)
Tjukurrpa Mantle -- Magic Attack Bonus + 4
Aqualine Belt -- Magic Attack Bonus +3, Magic Accuracy + 3
Denali Kecks -- Magic Attack Bonus +3, Magic Accuracy +3 (this is especially interesting because of the new stats forthcoming in the future O.O)
Rings and feet would be the standard dexterity options for the secondary mod


Maximum MaB -- 41
Non situational stuff MaB -- 35 (no mirke, no gloves, and held off on novio as well).

The medal is kind of up in the air price wise atm since it's brand new. It's hard to say how low it'll go before supply starts to run out and it goes back up like saevus pendant did when WoE died off last time. It's a T5 Voidwatch drop and atm we have over a dozen on fenrir listed, but it's something I intend to watch for a bit. There's always uggy pendant, but some people will have merited 15 mp by now for mage jobs so the latent may be tough to trigger in that case.

Before I ramble too much I'll stop here. Aeolian builds can be quite nifty. I'll just leave the post at that.

Wouldn't a fully upgraded magian dagger with Matk be better than a Martial Knife for AE spam. You don't sacrifice 20 base damage on an inferior TP weapon, and with the INT + Matk on the dagger you should only be slightly below the performance of Martial in the best case senario for Martial anyway. Matk alone in your build gives 6.6% bonus to your AE damage vs. a 12.5% bonus for Martial(@ exactly 100 TP). The 11 INT should increase the base damage by 2-3 as well. (2.6 when calculated with @).

Frankly, I don't find myself right at 100% TP because of all the DA/TA gear I sport, even when not in Abyssea, so that needs to be factored in to the viability of Martial as an AE weapon too, with 2x 100TP bonus weapons, you have to WS @ 100tp exactly to reap the full benefits.

Just for kicks, calculating using specifically your gear set posted, this is what I come up with. Using Mirke, and Athos gloves (7 DEX and 7 INT should beat Raider's +8 DEX). Also adding 10 dex feet, since they look like the best we can do and +13 DEX from rings. Since the mod has INT as well, I would guess that INT would be a better stat to stack though as it should affect the accuracy (consistency) of AE since it is magic damage.

MAB Magian Dagger (Mithra THF/NIN no Attribute merits)
MAB = 45 (Only counting 35 in your base set unless I made a mistake.[You counted all 3 earrings, and also got an extra 1 somewhere.])
+DEX = 38
+INT = 10
+Wind = +6

Total:
DEX = 140
INT = 108

AE base Damage: 69 + 49 + 2 = 120
fTP = 3.5
AE damage: 645

Martial Knife
MAB = 35
DEX = 140
INT = 97

AE base Damage: 66 + 49 + 2 = 118
fTP = 4
AE damage: 675 (4.7% higher than Magian Dagger)

Conclusion: I assumed that base fINT was 0 (Player INT = Mob INT - 16) for the calculation, which would favor the Magian dagger to be honestwhich favors Martial Knife. Martial Knife does provide just under 5% higher damage on AE over a fully upgraded Magian dagger, which is significant. As fINT increases, that benefit decreases to about 2.5% at the fINT cap of 32 for Magian giving max benefit (+6). If you aren't worried about dealing damage during an AE spam fest, which you might not be, Martial looks like the way to go for this.

Big Edit: Looking at ffxiclopedia I found this for calculating elemental WS damage:

â– Damage = (( Lv+2+WSC ) * fTP + fINT ) * Resist * Elemental Staves * Weather * MDIF * Magic Damage Adjustment

So, taking from that, base damage of the Weaponskill on both should be (49 + 2 + WSC)

Another Edit: I made a mistaken assumption about which weapon low fINT favors.

This is relevant info on the rancor mantle. Taken from the BG thread located here

MNK/SAM with RR, GH, DD on Abyssea Grauberg crabs got 698 crits in a row w/ rancor mantle on and no other crit gear. This means the mantle should be at least 5% crit rate.

MNK/SAM with RR, GH, Mounted Champ on Abyssea Grauberg crabs got 1509 crits, 363 non-crits w/ rancor collar and rancor mantle. That is 80.6% crit rate.

So, it appears that the effects of both the mantle and neck do not stack. I did not test for any other properties of the mantle if they exist.

Not sure if you guys have known about this yet but I have seen Assassin Armlets +2 on my server with a new trial on them after completion. I tried to use the moogle to look further into it but viewing through the moogle ends at +2'ing the hands. I asked the guy with them what the stats or bonus was he just said Perfect Dodge +10seconds. Just wanted to throw that out there. Has anyone else seen anything like that? And does that mean that relic can go to +5 like nyzle isle gear?

Relics only go to +2 so far and then they get an augment that boosts an existing JA
Head Enhances Aura Steal
Body enhances ambush
Hands enhance Perfect Dodge
Legs Enhance Feint
and Feet enhance Assassins Charge

Supposedly you can use JA, change gear and still get bonus (at least mnk hands you can)

Not just mandau! I'll be macroing this into my exenterator weaponskill set once I get ahold of one. There's a lot of stuff I'm looking at on the auction atm for several of my jobs so I plan on holding off for while on some of these things until prices go down some, but this belt is high on my want list. It's just **** awesome (9 str is fSTR +2 if uncapped, and 29.5 attack needs no explination).

The -DA rate only affects thf/war, and even with DW3 I'll be subbing nin and/or dancer sometimes for defensive measures. Plus zerk multiplies the attack even more. It's just a really great belt for anything multi hit.

Oh yeah forgot to add that you can get mab+3 demon rings from tahrongi, although from my limited time they seem pretty rare

You can get up to +6 on those rings. I think someone did the math a while back and it came out to if you have less than 5 mab on the rings, you would be better off with a +7 DEX ring. I personally think INT is the best idea for AE, because much like STR on physical WS, INT is counted twice (up to 48 INT more than mob).

I have never heard of anything higher than +3 Magic Attack Bonus on those rings and certainly have never seen it. You [i]can[i] get +3 Magical Critical Hit Damage along with the other, but that's not the same thing and as far as I know won't do anything ever for magical weaponskills. For the record, I have Blue Cleave'd my way through there on lots of occasions and have finished...seven(?) Empyrean weapons through that zone, so I have seen a fair number of rings in my day.
