an old question i couldnt findFollow

for evasion skill:
+3 earring
+10 boxer's mantle
+10 cp item windhurst hands
torque +7 neck
+5 boots

the rest of the gear is less skill per slot. now i know generally speaking skill > statistics (evasion, agi, attack, str, accuracy, dex). but i would like to ask the thf community HOW-MUCH better would i get out of the earring?? it is only 3 skill, and the level in question would be 70 since i'm trying to beat maat. how much more would i get out of the 200k evasion skill earring over 3agi for 10k? I guess i'm more interested in bang/buck here, since at 75 i will probably do the lvl 50 evasion4 earring and suppa, or brutal/suppa. how much more benefit do i get from +3 evasion skill than the other alternatives, even at 75? Thanks for your mathematical responses =D

If we have to give the 'its situational' then here's two of them:
lvl 70 vs. maat
lvl 85 vs. gigas farming for desynth items: gigas gauntlets, gigas helms, in (S).

What is your question? You are level 70 and still trying to beat maat? The key to maat is not evasion gear.

1. At start buff up (food, blink band, tp regen, ect)
2. SAws
3. I-wing and ws
4. win

If the skillchain did not kill him then continue to melee and/or shoot bloody bolts.

Also all the evasion gear you listed is pretty bad at level 85 except for boxer's mantle.

Maat is a pretty easy fight. Follow Breeze's advice and you should win no worries.

Ears: Don't use the +3 skill one. For reasonable AH evasion in ear slot, go with Elusive Earrings.

Back: Boxer's is good

Hands: Master Caster's Mitts are ok in certain conquest relevant areas but are useless everwhere else (ToAU, Abyssea, WoTG etc). War Gloves(+1) are a reasonable AH option for your level. Later options include Denali wristbands and Slither gloves.

Neck: Torque is ok. Ritter Gorget later is also ok.

Feet: Emissary boots are passable I guess, but you will be better off using Dance Shoes(+1) @ 72 until afv3 feet.

I wouldn't bother with the earring, not enough of a boost compared to its price and ear slot has alot of nice offensive options that are more worth it than the small boost you get from Evasion earring. Elusive and Velocity are both respectable options and there are more, but those would generally not be considered acceptable due to the pricetag/difficulty in obtaining.

If you want to boost your evasion properly you will need a good mix of skill, eva+ and agi, no single one of these elements should be considered better than the other since they generally work together to boost your actual evasion.

Since when? As far as we're concerned evasion is the polar opposite of accuracy where

Accuracy
(after 200 skill) 1 skill == 0.9 accuracy
4 dexterity == 2 accuracy == 1% accuracy

Therefore

Evasion
(after 200 skill) 1 skill == 0.9 evasion
4 agility == 2 evasion == 1% evasion

There is no balance to agility and evasion if all you want is to dodge. The dex/agility check only affects how often the enemy gets a critical hit on you (IE the critical hit curve. 50 dex over agi == capped crit rate, decreasing to the floor). If all you care about is evasion and you have a piece with 12 evasion (scorpion harness +1) or a piece with 7 evasion and 6 agility (aketon +1) you choose the scorpion harness +1. The aketon +1 only boosts actual evasion by 10, so the scorpion harness +1 is a full 1% evasion rate stronger (2 eva == 1% evasion).

There is no science in "balancing agi with evasion with skill" It's hard math. When you gear for accuracy do you try and balance dex with accuracy with dagger skill? NO, you do not. You use toreador's ring over a dex ring, and you would use scorpion harness +1 before you would use Tabin Jupon +1 (7 accuracy and 2 dex). Consequently you would use skadi's cuirie before you used scorpion harness +1, because skadi's gives 14 accuracy with combined bonuses. It really is that simple. Oh and btw, elusive earring is better than evasion earring. 6 evasion directly will always outdo 3 skill (which translates into 2.7 evasion so it can give 2 or 3 actual evasion depending on rounding).

thanks melfina! that helps answer the question. but to add a similar question, what earrings WOULD you recommend 65-85 and which (each slot) gear would you wear at 85 vs. gigas (vs. the higher level gigas that drop gauntlets and helm in Outlands(S), not the qufim ones)? You guys seem to have some really good ideas, I look forward to your reply! ;)

oh and to clarify, outside of maat fight which you say to arm myself to the teeth with str/dex/attk/acc, i use thf to solo/farm so i'm looking to make setup with evasion so i can evade more. As thf/dnc, the dnc sub will help me stay alive longer with cures, but that means i don't have the shadows to keep away dmg...thus i need to evade MORE in order to stay alive or i will die. But also, what does haste play into my setup (ie, should i wear haste in all the slots i can't get evasion skill?) I know more haste = more ws = mob dies faster and i live more, but i still need insane evasion in order to avoid getting hit with no protection available from /dnc. Ok, well thanks again on your input!

Elusive Earrings are your best bet.

As far as other evasion gear, it depends on how much you want to put into obtaining these things. I am an evasion WHORE and it makes me feel good to work on my max possible set from time to time.

Perssonally, the best evasion time investment I ever made was completing 2x Evasion Kila +1's. Dual wielding them at 85 is a whopping 44 evasion in your weapons slot alone. The wind kila is also one of the easiest dagger trials to complete. You can complete them almost entriely in wajoam woodlands which has very frequent wind weather.

Dual wielding those with capped evasion skill/merits allows me to idle in my regular TP set on most things comfortably (I solo a lot of NMs).

Here is what I use currently in my evasion kit:

Daggers: Evasion Kila+1's
Ranged: I always prefer xbow/bolts in conjunction with Bow/Para arrows when soloing. But if you were fighting something where they are absolutely not applicable, then Ungur Boomerang.
Head: Fugacity Beret
Body: Scorpion Harness +1
Back: Boxer's Mantle
Neck: Evasion Torque
Hands: War Gloves(+1)/Master Caster's Mitts (Upgrading to Slither Gloves very soon)
Waist: Scouter's Rope
Ears: Elusive Earring X2 (Maybe some day I'll upgrade to Novia + Triton Earring for completion's sake but I'm not sure I like the -stats on either of them)
Rings: Heed Ring + Breeze Ring (Soon to be Auster's when I can find one)
Legs: Raven Hose (Looking to upgrade to Ocelot Trousers)
Feet: Dance Shoes +1 (5 more seals and this will be AF3+1 feet)

You will almost never need this much evasion on most things you encounter but each piece is pretty good for its slot.

I do have a max evasion set with all of it for a lot of things I do. A perfect example would be the first time my LS killd Briareus before a lot of the info was out etc. Our tanks wiped, along with their support. I was able to hold him by myself until they recovered. It can give you a bit of breathing room if things go wrong.

Its also nice to have for kiting and pulling. Or even if a high end mob gets lucky and all your shadows are down and you NEED this ichi to go off.

Best thing to do is probably add/remove pieces to play around and see where you are comfortable with your shadow times or tp gain (for DNC soloing) VS your evade rate. You want to find that optimal balance between evasion gear and DD stats for whichever mob you are soloing.

Why are you fighting giga in the first place? If your answer is anything like: making gil, or skilling up then you are doing something wrong.

And a thf/dnc tping in evasion gear makes me very sad. Since that is not how /dnc works.

Fighting gigas is a great way to make gil. Or at least the drops are worth a great deal of gil. Gigas helm and Gigas gauntlet are awesome desynths for my craft, and according to wiki, there are a large variety of them in their zones. (~30 spawn points in each zone). Why is this wrong? What would you do to gain gil instead?

thf/dnc doesnt work with evasion gear. Who said? Why wouldn't you want to NOT get hit when you are hitting other objects without shadows?

Thanks for the reply by the self-proclaimed evasion whore. Because of your recommendations, i will look into the kila path for daggers, and I will look up all of the evasion gear you list. I appreciate your help. As for now, I just dinged 67 thf, so my maat fight is looming, and with many farming options, I contemplate my next step =D.

Doubt you will need much evasion for adc mob. And for /dnc you need haste if you want to heal and ws.
