Hey guys, since the atmosphere of the board has been nothing but morbid as of late I figure this should help lighten things up. S-E screwed us over on new abilities but at least there's some nice gear inside abyssea. I've been spending some time fighting a few NM's and I must say that the tier 1's are all pretty easy with the right setup (with a few exceptions like Azde O.O). So with that said I'll get onto the good stuff.

Today I joined a PUG and spent a few hours inside Abyssea-Konstant fighting nms. We killed Bakka, Raskovnik and Kalamari with just 6 people. Setup THF RDM SMN BST BST BST. Since pets are immune to charm we killed Raskovnik with them and I was amazed at how resilient that sheep jug is. They tanked both Bakka and Raskovnik into the ground and I tanked Kalamari's Mantle Pierce in my evasion setup. After two rounds of that I suggested we try and pop Tonberry Leije and it went off shockingly well.

-----------------------------------------------
The NM --Tonberry Leije

This is a lottery pop from one of the Tonberry Occultist's at k-4 in the northeasternmost quadrant of the zone. When you view the group of occultist's on widescan the placeholder is the first tonberry on the list. I can confirm this personally because it was my idea to test this theory. S-E is too dead set in their ways to change them now and they almost ALWAYS place the PH mobs at the top of a widescan list, and sure enough they were true to form. I had one of our beastmasters widescan the first Cryptonberry Occultist and two repops later Tonberry Leije was up. I can also personally confirm he is a 30 minute repop because we were able to spawn him again half an hour after killing him the first time. I had one of my group members update the wiki btw, so his page now reflects the proper placeholder in the widescan list.

------------------------------------------------
The Pull

The Cryptonberry Occultist's are all black mages and their neigboring camp is another set of Tonberries so fighting Tonberry Leije where he spawned was risky. There IS a clearing in the northeast corner of the field he pops in but it doesn't give you enough room to move away from his nukes so I sent my party to Verdical Conflux #8 and flee pulled the Leige there.

Pros of this camp
--- I was able to use Hide and despawn all the links, but even if that had failed I could have used the verdical conflux to warp away from aggro.
--- It's a large field with NO aggro nearby, perfect for kiting him around.
--- The verdical conflux can be used to warp back to the cruor prospector to supply your group with a steady stream of mana powders and healing powders and elixirs.

Cons of this camp
--There are none, it's perfect.
----------------------------------
The Battle Strategy

This was amazingly simple. We gave everyone shell IV and the sheep tanked the Leije while our summoner tanked with Ifrit. Since there was a conflux nearby I ran back and forth to the cruor prospector and delivered a bunch of mana and healing powders. The mages never ran out of mana and the Leije never broke through our defenses. He's also squishy and takes damage really easily (he IS a black mage). The fight lasted all but 5 minutes and after three rounds of delivering meds and a perfect pull I shot him a few times to add treasure hunter and the battle was over.

----------------------------------------
Summarizing the event:

The Tonberry Leije is an incredibly easy mob to fight provided you pull him to verdical conflux #8. His nukes didn't do that much damage even when I got hit. I had over 1600 HP thanks to homam/turban etc HP boost and the enhancement effect at the cruor propspector, so all I had to do was use a lucid potion II or a lucid elixir and I was good as new. The mana powders I was flinging around gave the mages enough mana to never run dry and the healing powders further facilitated surviving. He takes damage pretty easily and his max hp count isn't all that high. If you bring a black mage or two they can not only use the verdical conflux #8 to warp away and ditch aggro, but buy all the temp elixirs and ethers and potions they could ask for. That and I'm sure water V wrecks this guy. We brought a blm the second fight and thunder IV tore into him fierce so I've no doubt water V would rape his face apart. And of course the drop rate is like most other abyssean NM's... pretty high. I fought him twice and I have my mantle. This is one for the scrapbook. Now THAT is a serious TP mantle. And it's so easy to get.. on a scale of 1-10 I rate this NM a 1 for Too Weak. All you need is a few mages or pet classes and he falls apart in no time.

I just woke up from a nap after our Labor Day picnic and I'm replaying the events from abyssea again in my head so I'll try to add some extra info. I remember Tonberry Leieje getting off a nuke on me the second go around but it only did 700 damage which seems way too low, so I think I resisted that one. Bakka... his blizzaga IV one shotted me so I'm pretty sure Leije's nukes were more formidable than my post implied, but my group was able to control them easily nevertheless. I have damage filtered and I turned on the pet target filter so I never saw how quickly the sheep jug pet's hp depleted, but the beastmasters were able to keep them alive for an amazing duration... so much so that with a 5 minute recast we had sheep around the whole time. Our black mage subbed /ninja and tanked Tonberry really well, and the red mage gave him haste for stun recast. I don't remember flare-ga happening below 50% but since flare II is still single target and flare one has a freakin 20 second cast time it probably just got stunned and the flare II's blink tanked. I'm sure Mana wall helped too, as our blm was a taru blm/nin and I'm sure he was using it. However I hold to my opinion that this was an easy fight with our setup, so a few mages and pet jobs will take Tonberry Leije down just like they will for Bakka and Raskovnik. It was a fun battle, that much is sure.

tsk tsk Melphina I already wrote about this NM...............four weeks ago. I even posted my info in a topic you posted in also.

9th post, scroll down to the bottom.

You did not even mentioned it has perma blaze-spikes and enfire which you can't dispel.

Also pulling it to Conflux #8 is not smart for a number of reasons. You can lose hate from the NM. Thus giving other people a chance to claim/steal you NM. Or you might not have noticed you lost agro and the NM will walk back into other groups farming abysite. But most importantly it is not needed to pull the NM to Conflux #8. The NE corner of the map is big enough to kite the NM in without risk of getting agro. With all the temp items, buffs, atma you should never run out of mp. The NM is just that easy.

I never saw your post so I apologize. Looking at the thread your post happened three days after mine did and nobody posted anything after it so it probably sunk. My work hours are sporadic and there are times where I post and play for days at a time, and others where I barely log in and don't get to check the message boards because I'm working 7 or 8 day consecutive shifts. That's life for me. Up until now I haven't seen any info on the NM and nobody even responded to your post so I'd bet others missed it too (I can tell shamaya overlooked it for one).

The reason I didn't post about that is because it's already chronicled on the wiki. I was trying to add NEW info the wiki didn't have. As quoted on the wiki

Quote:
Lottery Spawn from Cryptonberry Occultist (K-4) approximately every thirty minutes.Verification Needed
Place holder is the top Cryptonberry Occultist on wide scan.
Has increased Movement Speed.
Casts Fire IV, Firaga III, and Flare.
Below 50% HP, gains access to Fire V, Firaga IV, and Flare II.
He will continue to cast Flare below 50%, however the spell gains an Area of Effect effect. Flare II is unaffected by this trait.
Has permanent Blaze Spikes which inflict more damage as HP decreases. Starting around 30/hit. ~200/hit at 10% HP.

The bolded part was already listed so I didn't think it was necessary to add redundant information. I figured out the the italicised part about the placeholder's widescan list location too but it wasn't posted on the wiki yesterday so one of my group members added that info in.

I disagree this camp is bad under the condition that you are alone.... which will actually be more often than not. Yesterday I farmed abyssean NM's with a small pick up group for three hours and we only saw one other person the whole time. Tonberry Leije spawns so far away from any useful abyssea exp alliance camps that the only people who will be nearby are those hunting NM's... in which case if they want the Lieje they're there to take it regardless. The three camps are tonberry black mages, tonberry ninja's, and Imps.... NONE of which anybody will exp on for obvious reasons (the tonberry's use everybody's grudge aside from being mean and imps spam amnesia). We claimed Kalamari 3 times, Raskovnik 3 times, Bakka 3 times, and Tonberry Lieje 2 times in 2 1/2 hours so the camp sucking is only contingent that you have competition. Remember the following 4 facts about abyssean NM's

1: They have a 30 minute repop (FAST)
2: The PH mobs spawn the NM instead of the PH again really often
3: To enter you have to spend abyssean time so they have to be hunted for specifically. You can't just warp to them and there are 3 (soon more) zones
4: The drop rates are really high so people can get their turn in and move on after 1 or 2 kills instead of needing to kill the same NM 50 times for one drop.

That cumulative effect has prevented a bottleneck from occurring in a way we're used to seeing (at least on tier 1 NM's) so despite the abyssean NMs having awesome stuff they're up more often than they're not. S-E finally did something right when they made a NM system because the abyssean NM's are player friendly.

The clearing in the northeast section of the field is where I pulled the placeholder to kill it and it is a safe spot for that, but it's still borderline too close to the other tonberry occultist's and if somebody runs from Lieje's nukes and gets aggro the whole camp can link and spam sleepga/nukega-s on you. Tonberry lieje can be fought up there just fine, but the risk is greater than at the conflux. When I pulled the Leije my second battle I fleed back and used Hide and it worked which despawned every link I had. I too thought the Lieje would be running back to his spawn point so I ran back after him... but to my shock he was still chasing me and the abyssean battle music began playing as the Tonberry Lieje came into sight... still red and claimed and coming for me. It probably is possible to lose hate but from my second pull it may or may not be something to worry about. And while it may not be necessary, having the conflux nearby to restock on temp meds certainly doesn't hurt. I say if you can swing it the conflux is a much better camp than the northeast corner. But if you do have people competing, the corner works just fine.
