What was it that SE had said at vanafest? Or was it not very clear. I haven't played for a couple months, so I forgot exactly.

Something like, current relics/mythics would get a version 2 (magians). Then there would be new relic type weapons released. And then they would allow people to use relics/mythics as an ingredient towards a new super Ultimate Weapon to end all weapons? Like a kind of Goku/Vegeta fusion? Or am I just thinking up that last part on my own?

I don't recall reading that but I wasn't keeping up with everything that came out of paySEmore$fest. Somehow I have a really hard time believing them when they use the words "ultimate" or "final".

Well, the name definitely sounds way too easy to pervert. Twashtar seems to be derived from Tvastar, which is from the Vedic religion and means heavenly builder. It is said he is invoked when desiring offspring (called garbha-pati, or lord of the womb.) He has also been called Rathkara, or chariot maker. He created the Vajra for Indra and also created Vrtra to kill Indra when Indra killed his son Trisiras.

What if any connections this will have to anything else in-game is yet to be found and I didn't delve too deep into all the other connections. Their definitely keeping a South Eastern Asia theme with their Dagger nomenclature as the Mandau is knife of the Dayak people of Borneo and the mandala is very prominent in the philosophies of the area.

Lol strange. When I go to the visions of abyssia website, i can see pics of the dmg/delays of various weapons, but some of them (like dagger, h2h, and polearm) don't show up at all.

Twashtar is obtained by doing 2 Magian Trials on the Kartika

1) Kill Tammuz 8 times

2) obtain 50 glavoid shells

Daka is obtained by doing a different second trial

2) Obtain 30 coins of birth.

Looks like the NM needed to get the glavoid shells is a difficult Tier3 Abyssian pop mob. Don't know the details yet. I'm just speculating that because I read that a different Empyrian Weapon required 50x items from such a mob, so I assume the same will be true for Twashtar. Really hoping that the mob drops quite a few of these per kill..

Sham, I know it may be a shot in the dark but I have a gut feeling that these weapons will be the new relics that we have always been asking for.

The complaints about the dynamis relic and ToAU mythic weapons have always been that they require not just a huge amount of effort but also tons of gil.

Since, SE has said that these will be augmented on future updates and right now they are the highest dot/dmg weapons from the Trial of the Magians, I have a feeling that they will be the new best weapons.

However, I do not think they will top dynamis relic. I can see them beating, in dot/dmg, the mythic weapons as they already do. Most likely they won't have the bonus a la mythic.

When you look at it, they do take effort. However they don't take a huge linkshell or tons of gil.

I think their choice of making it 50 glavoid shells was because it would take people 3-6 months to complete it (of course hardcore players will do in way less time). That 3-6 month time period would be right around the time the new update would be rolling in and the weapon getting another improvement.

There are another 2 reason why SE isn't releasing any new weapons that will take forever to complete and they are FFXI is getting old and FFXIV is right around the corner. They know a lot of people love FFXI but they are no longer willing to spend a humongous time going after anything new in this game.

Don't forget, a lot of us started the game in our teens. Now we are adults and have to devote most of our time to RL.

They wouldn't have updated Mandau to be better than Twashtar in the same update if that were the case.

I thought of it first:

Sorry I meant with exception of relic. I just didn't post in that sentence. I put in my post that in dmg it would something between relic and mythic.

When the dev team was discussing these weapons as the "new set of ultimate weapons" at vanafest, I couldn't tell if they meant that it would be another set to exist in parallel to relics/mythics, or if they would be the successor. But I'm slightly leaning towards the opinion that these will be "successor" weapons in the long run; that at some point, they'll be stronger. But who knows. I also believe these are "the" weapons. I mean they've already been defined as a special class (Empyrean Weapons), are strong, and difficult to obtain. If they really do require 50 Tier3 VNM drops though, that is... a lootttt of work. Like working full-time, I think it would take up like all my remaining free time to gather it in 3-6 months.

Here is an excerpt regarding one of the upper tier NM's required to obtain the 50 fetch-items required for Masamune, the Empyrean Great Katana, http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3910449&postcount=557

Overly difficult mob. Was with Cichy on the kill, Benediction'd at 70%, damage dropped by probably 75% and it would randomly absorb any magic damage done to it. Kaitens dropped from 800~ to 200~. Spams buffs, has a potent TP regen, need to spam the **** out of dispel. At about 50% after Bene, it used Cyclonic Turmoil 3-4 times in a row, killing every melee and one Pld (Aegis). While we were recovering and still doing some damage, it started spamming Cure VI, for about 800-1000. Didnt move it for 5 minutes, then re-engaged and it magically stopped using Cure VI til about 10%, where it started spamming Cure VI again. Worked it down to 8% and it stopped Curing again. At 2%, it used Cyclonic Turmoil 3-4 times in a row again, killing the DD once again. I worked my way up outta there and finished it with Meikyo Shisui. Randomly cast with some amount of Fast Cast, Aeroga 3 for 900-1500, Aero 5, and Tornado 2. Tough ****.

Dropped 2 pieces =X

It makes you wonder what the successive trials are going to entail eh? Of course by level 99 taking on something like that will (hopefully) be a little more bearable, but by then they'll have implemented even tougher trials to correlate with the higher levels. If it's anything like the relic system of 400 --> 1400 ---> 6100 ---> 10,000 coins then the worst is very much yet to come. That's just ... wow O.O.

I actually wonder what the next add ons will bring. Didn't S-E say that abyssea would be something where we could pick and choose an expansion and go for what gear suited us best? Something to the extent that each add on was a separate entity similar to the mini expansions? I thought I remembered hearing that before visions came out (maybe I'm thinking incorrectly). While not impossible to do; the current set of 3 zones would take a long time if people need farming in each area, and the old "I help you if you help me" means you'll end up farming all 3 current zones for your stuff. If they added two more expansions with 3 zones each then that's... a whole lot of content to explore O.O. It's looking like it's going to be a very eventful period coming up between now and this time next year
