Question about "increases rate of critical hits"Follow

Ok not a THF myself but asking you guys because THF actually has this option available to it. Everywhere I check it lists things like Assasin's Vest and P.Body's "increase's rate of critical hits" as being 1~5%, basically noone has any clue. Does anyone on the THF board have math or data related to this? I'm looking for total DEX and monsters AGI included with this.

The reason is that I think it alters the actual formula for crits rather then a straight +amount. Currently the tiers are
Player DEX - Monster Agi = dDex

For dDex < 20, +crit 0%
For dDex > 20 < 40 +crit 1 to 5%
For dDex > 40 < 50 +crit 6 to 15%

Assuming crit is 5% base with 20% being cap prior to merits and gear. Now if the items adjusted the amount of dDex required for the next tier, it would produce the near random results we've been seeing. Especially if it makes someone in tier II go into tier III.

Anyhow that what I'm thinking but need assistance with any data or testing that's already been done.

-Edit-
Did some quick checking, seems 24~25% is the cap after 4% crit merits and I was confused on the wording.

Before going into that I just wanted to ask where those numbers were from. They're not on otherwiki yet as far as I can see. And also, cap is supposed to be 20% pre-merits. Range is 9-24% after merits. Given that though, that messes up the tiers you quoted. Do you have a link? Not flamin just, I'm interested in crit myself.

This was proposed back during the P. Body testing. People tried using the P. Body with specific levels of DEX to try to isolate whether it was effectively adding DEX or lowering tier requirements, and the results were still inconclusive.

I didn't find the data from a quick Google search, but some of threads are too long for me to dig through. I imagine someone has a link to the numbers, or remembers the results better than I do.

Testing done awhile back on the NIN forum about this. From what I understand the cap is 20% after dDEX. But this is why I want actual test data so I have something to work with rather then second / third hand information.

I'm trying to remember where the dDex = 20 came from. The testing on the NIN forums was done on EP crabs and the testers most likely had already surpassed the first tier, but that was back in 2007 before they had a solid grip on things.

That is the table I use.

Testing that gear isn't difficult, just time consuming. Fire up a parser go swing at anything you should be 50 DEX over ~1000 times (1000 hits that is, so with 95% acc. cap should be about 1050 swings). Count the criticals, switch to one of those bodies, repeat, and switch to the 3rd body repeat.

I'd pick something that drops something worth while (maybe crawlers in the maze of shakrimani or whatever it is). If you're at the cap, the level difference shouldn't matter and you can see how much its increased by.

I've wanted to do this for a couple months now, but I've barely been online.

Just a friendly bump on this. There's a lot of new formula fishing and sampling on this.

Example Chart

If people want, the current information is probably good enough to use for general estimation use. But thus far the correct model has definitely not been wholly uncovered. Bounds and slopes seem to still be subject to change.

A bro'ski named Byrthnoth had a very similar idea to Saevel's in the OP. He speculated that maybe "enhances critical hit rate" items are adjusting your dDex value. So maybe that is what is going on; that or the OP's idea that it is adjusting the formula. I think it is more likely the formula, but who knows *shrug*. Either way, it would explain why sampling on these items has been baffling, inconsistent, and has given mediocre results.

The link to the current thread I'm talking about is the one in the post right above this one.
