Emnity changes and re-thinking gearFollow

With the recent changes to emnity, are the "optimal" WHM sets still the same? The "-emnity" on some pieces has been fairly irrelevant for a long time now. Has it become more important as of late? Anybody else rethinking some of their gear selection to try to incorporate some -emnity? If so, which slots/pieces are you looking at?

Thinking about this more, I'm starting to even consider carrying a full -pdt set. I am a fairly new WHM, but I learned to play the job under a system in which I could cure-bomb the **** out of anyone, and not worry about pulling hate. I do understand that I can be more "emnity efficient"...leaning on Regens and lower-tier cures more as opposed to just dropping Cure V all the time, but even being mindful of this, I'm finding myself getting smacked in the face a lot more than ever before. I'm thinking a -pdt set might be a worthwhile investment now.

Enmity down gear has never been "irrelevant" although a lot of people neglected it in the Abyssea / Voidwatch era. That's just because they weren't very experienced in content other than Abyssea / Voidwatch. I personally never took it out of my gear because I tended to seek out the challenging events like the Provenance Caturae fights, Legion, Arch Omega, and so forth. Even before the enmity adjustments, it was possible to pull hate as a healer in those events. Honestly, I haven't even noticed the enmity changes on WHM. It feels just the same as it always has to me. For reference, here's my cure set: http://www.ffxiah.com/item-sets/94432 (It has -23 enmity, and Cure V hits for 1125.)

As far as enmity efficiency, Cure V is the most efficient in terms of enmity. So don't stop casting that. However, whereas Cure V also used to be the most MP-efficient, that is no longer true. Cure III is much more MP-efficient now due to the healing skill changes. So for that reason, the lower Cures are much more valuable than they used to be. Basically, use whatever Cure is right for the job. I haven't stopped using Cure IV as a result of the enmity changes, and it hasn't caused me problems yet.

As far as PDT/MDT, it's never been much of an option for me. For one thing I rarely die even if I do pull hate, I can tank most endgame stuff just by blasting Cures on myself. I'm Elvaan though, so take it with a grain of salt. There's also the fact that I don't use Spellcast because I think it slows WHM down, and thus my precast set is my idle set. Having to squeeze both refresh and fast cast into the same set of gear doesn't leave much room for PDT as well. So I just stick with curebombing myself if I somehow pull hate, because I rarely have hate for long.

I think for any WHM who has played pre-Abyssea at endgame, the changes won't make an enormous difference because things have shifted back a bit. Essentially I think most people can get the hang of it fairly fast though so I wouldn't panic. I think that the prices on -ENM gear have shifted up a bit on our server - Novia earring has become a little more expensive.

I have to say, I had a look at my gearsets for WHM and aren't too worried. If I need to implement crazy -ENM numbers again (at one point I would regularly cast in -36... which was overkill) I can but haven't needed to yet. A bit like Perg, I hadn't taken all of my -ENM gear out of my sets. Orison gear (with the exception of the hands) is very low in -ENM and it's something that has always slightly bugged me.

I have the capability of a damage down gearset but honestly on WHM, I've never found an enormous use for it. That's not to say I'm a great example but with care, WHM can avoid grabbing hate with reasonable ease. I do use damage down sets on many of my jobs but it's less of an issue on WHM (for me at least) than it is elsewhere.

One thing which I did find kinda interesting was that I finally seemed to have a use for Aff Misery and the Cura line again when exploring. Lots of mobs in confined spaces which have AoE attacks!
