New JA, Traits and Spells for WHMFollow

Not trying to be a deppressant here, but i was *kind* of expecting a little more D: I mean sure I <3 Cure VI and Divine Benison looks awesome.. but.. yeah ._. Do we have a use for the tier V single spells other than if we didnt merit that spell? ._.;

I am extremely curious about how they are going to implement this. What will the single target spells be in comparison to our merit spells? Same potency? Less?

And what about Protect? RDM and SCH's just got out Merit spell, and they can AoE them too.

It just seems.. too strange. Perhaps it is time they change our merit spells? Give us Pro/Shell-ra V naturally, and change the merits to "Protet/Shell Effect +X" instead? It just seems silly that we now need to merit something other jobs will get naturally.

This new Holy Deermeat ability sounds like salsa delicioso! :D

Cure VI must be intended for more of the content where you get beefed up HP, body boost and stuff -- or ASA final. 'Cause with ~50% curepot floating around, our CureThreeCannons are still the #1 all-purpose cleaner!

What I'm most excited about now is WHM/DNC, because omigawd bubbles~

They really just need to give Pro/Shell V (Both single and -RA) natively, and change our merits into "Enhances potency of Pro/Shell by X".

PDT for Protect sounds like a good idea. I like it :3

I also wonder how this is going to work I already have merits for Pro V and Shell V do I have to buy them for my RDM then even though my WHM has them? Seems odd that SE would release spells that can only be merited. Guess the BLM better watch out cause SCH will have tier II Ancient Magic soon.

Or farm them from level 90 WHM gobs that can banishga IV and holy 2 you while you try and break their 1k stoneskin.

We might get something to remove Amnesia but if we do, it may simply be at a higher level. That's a pretty powerful ~na to get hold of, well at least it could be if we come up against even more mobs which spam it. So far it's just imps and ladybugs?

I'm nervous about how they are going to deal with merits too.

erase and esuna removing amnesia would help me not use as much macros D:
But esuna might be risky for per say, imps. You can't Sacrifice THEN switch to Misery to esuna the amnesia away, so you'd have to be in range of the imp, risking you the chance of getting silenced and wasting echo drops.
Really, if they'd add a -na spell to it or to erase, it'll both still end up having us to probably have to cast it on every melee or so

I dunno if anyone else noticed this as well. On the Job traits section, they didn't list any exhisting traits, ie Whm, based on prior traits, should get Clear Mind 5 at level 80, but its not listed. I guess we'll see later on today or tomorrow what all was not posted in the traits/spells/abilities section.

Yeah, /SCH can get bent. WHM/RDM is a go!

Haste is not compatible with Accession.

Why would they do this, I have no clue. It only made our life easier...

My main gripe about losing /SCH is the lower enfeebling/enhancing skill, and Celerity was nice for weakness.

Oh well, at least I'll get Phalanx on WHM, and an easier dispel. MAB is kinda tasty for Holy/Banish anyways!

No Hastega doesn't really change much in my book. I'd planned to continue using WHM/SCH unless I have to Refresh other party members, in which case WHM/RDM. Without Hastega, that pretty much remains the same. I would miss Penury too much. Not to mention Light Arts, Conserve MP, and Aspir. /RDM's fast cast is slightly better than Light Arts, but the MP cost reduction isn't there. Convert every 10 minutes won't change the fact that we'll be burning through MP like it's 2003. I think WHM/SCH will still come out ahead with smart casting. Perhaps we'll just have to wait and see, though :)

Wiki told me where you can find the new spells. Protect V and Shell V are available in Rabao, for about 100k a piece. Ouch. I'm gonna get buffer tomorrow (I just dinged 76 and used them), then farm my tail off.

As for tests. Mind, I have no real way of testing the MAB on shell V! If someone has a way to do that, I'm very interested, as I have full merits in shellra V. Also merit wise; I only put in enough merits to UNLOCK protectra V, so you have a reference. (If Square made it so everyone gets full merited shell V without working for it, I'm prolly gonna be a little bit mad...)

How this was done; I basically just stood in windy, no buffs on. (Was subbing /blm at the time, that's my screw around/run around sub anyway. If I want to do serious stuff, it's usually /sch at this time, but I do have /rdm leveled since I also have 75 blm, if that turns out better I may not just use it on blm. got all my sub leveling done very early so I'm cool.) Checked defense via looking at my own gear, then cast prot V on me, checked gear again and noted the defense number, then canceled it (just to make sure it was clean). Then I cast Protectra V from the menu and checked again. I'll double check my alla profile, I think that's current gear. If not, check my FFXI AH profile, tho it's missing my teiwaz. If you see SMN gear on the FFXI AH profile, blame the fact that they are slow to update and be patient. (I used smn to get the darned blasted last merit point to break the cap. So I've been summoner most of the day, either chasing bombs or trying to FoV (that was a bust) or teaming with a crazy friend in sea to finally bust it and get my level)

Base defense on me(normal standing gear): Def 240
With Prot V: 300
With Protectra V:300

I hope that helps. If people wish to see screens (Well, it's a simple test) I'll redo this.

First, it's -MDT from shell, not MDB (and certainly not MAB). There is a difference. If you don't understand exactly how they work, just be sure to post the exact numbers from your testing, and we can help with the interpretation.

The way I've tested MDB and -MDT previously is go to Kuftal Tunnel and let a worm nuke me over and over. You will resist to varying degrees, but you will eventually get enough usable samples to at least draw an approximate conclusion, and there is little risk of getting killed. This method was how I determined that a Shadow Ring gives MDB +10 on Darksday, for example.

I really hope we do not get Auto Regen II. The tier 1 already made using Medicine Ring an annoyance, but at least using Sublimation would let you overcome it. Now Sublimation won't even be able to do that. >_>

same thing could be said for curecast though, personally I think it's good that you are given options to juggle different stats around in different slots since it gives more customization possible; that said the penalty for medicine ring is pretty bad but the requires farm and item sacrifice to get +50% without it is not something everyone will want to do.

No, this is not how you want to do it. First, the only random component in magic damage is resists. You don't need 100 samples. You only need enough to be confidant that you have one sample of a spell where you didn't resist, although you can actually use the resists for your estimate instead - just with less precision. Second, you absolutely MUST keep track of which spell you're getting nuked with. If you don't, you'll end up with a pile of numbers you can't keep straight, and it will all be worthless. Lastly, make sure you're getting nuked by the same worm each time, or at least worms of the same exact level, as INT may vary between worms of different level.

Has there been any testing yet on the new Shell 5 versus Shellra 5? I mean Shellra 5 full upgraded to 5/5 merits.

nvm I found it. Shell 5 Enhances targets magic defense by 62/256 (24.2%).
And Shellra 5 with 5/5 merits is 70/256 (27.34%). So Shellra 5 wins. Good because that saves me 130k.
