My best tip for anyone starting out is to read the forum stickies. You'll find a lot of useful info in there, compiled over the years. Look for your answers there first. Then if you have further questions, ask away in a more specific fashion.

As an FYI, many people consider ignoring the stickies as a pet peeve.

Level Scholar as mentioned :)

Also, SE introduced <stal> and <stpt> which allow you to scroll through your alliance or party lists now and it can help counter blinking. Depends on personal preference but it can be useful.

Check out the expansion scenario gear, especially the Selenian Cap and the pants from the latest shantotto expansion.

But really? /SCH is the best thing to happen to WHM in a long time

That's interesting, I hadn't heard about SCH being good as a subjob. I mainly play RDM but have recently been leveling WHM again, currently 42. I'll have to unlock SCH and use it for sub if its as awesome as it seems.

No ifs about it. /SCH really is as good as it gets.

/SCH is the ideal subjob starting at WHM20.

I'll throw a suggestion based on a recent Whm i encountered.

Stop leveling and farm for Scrolls XD

We were in a lv 38-42 party (synced) and when we hit 40, the whm didn't have Haste, when we hit 41, he didn't have Cure 4, he didn't have slow either. And his Enfeebling skill was in the 50s.

Take your time and don't rush through the levels, everyone in your party will appreciate you more if you are geared (equiptment and spells) properly for the party.

He was a pretty good Whm all things considering, but i would have had a slightly different opinion if he had all his spells.

As has been stated before, get SCH leveled to 37 asap.

At 20 you get Light arts (-10% cost to all cures), and access to an ability called Penury. Penury reduces the cost of your next white magic spell by 50% (doesn't stack with light arts) an is re-usuable in a short ammount of time. At 20-59 its reuseable every 4 min, or about twice per divine seal recast, but at 60+ its available every 2 min, which creates a significant gain in MP over time. At 60+ if you don't use a strategem for 4 min, you don't lose the recast of the second Penury that would have been available... in other words you get a charge every 2 min to a maximum of 2 charges, which can be used back to back if neccessary. Ie. Penury---> Cure IV, Penury----> Curaga III with little to no delay.

Alone, Penury puts /sch on par with /blm or /smn. Include Light art's mp cost reduction and the ability to aspir/drain/dispel with use of Dark Arts then swapping back to Light Arts makes /sch HANDS DOWN the best possible sub for WHM in almost every situation.

Edited for accuracy. Otherwise the rest of the post is great.

Oh and /SCH gets Conserve MP. THAT alone puts it on par with /BLM as far as healing goes, and that's just a tiny portion of what the subjob does (since Conserve MP is pretty unimpressive).

For you might not know what is the effect of Light Arts/Dark Arts.

-10% mp cost/casting time/recasting time, Light for White, Dark for Black
-Raise all corresponding magic skill to the level of B as if it is your main job.
-available to use stratagem like Penury.
-last for 2hrs or zoning. with recast of 1min only.

So you would have 256246 dark skill when you WHM75/SCH10+ in dark art, while you will only get 114 as WHM70/BLM37.
In this reason, your Aspir would be much more effective, esp in Dynamis.

/SCH also provide an ability called Sublimation, a convert-alike refresh.

I know there's already a 'read the stickies' response, but in Eldelphia's Cleric's Corner, please check the first link, "Flo's short guide". WHM got two major stances - Afflatus Solace and Afflatus Misery - that do significantly change the style of play.

Use regens more than cures because they're more efficient and let you rest in between hastes. Use /sch and never look back. Use afflataus solace for the few times you have to cure, and use afflautas misery for sacrifice/esuna combo. Learn how to switch between them as needed. For mobs with aoe status afflictions, Afflatus Solace -> Sacrifice -> Afflatus Misery -> Esuna. Boom, everyone's back to positive status again.

Also make sure you make use of Repose, WHM's super-accurate sleep, and ALWAYS make use of flash. If you do your job with regens, you'll have so little enmity that the small spike you get from flash is meaningless.

Don't be afraid to throw paralyze/dia/slow on every mob if there's no red mage until you start to move into ToAU, then just dia every mob and don't bother erasing reflected Dia's. Use stoneskin if Dia hits you so you can rest a few ticks. Drain/aspir from scholar sub is great unless your mob is an imp. Learn to time aspir's so they go off just before the bird dies so you don't get it reflected, or keep blink up to absorb it.

WHM is a really fun job and has a ton of stuff to do. People who ***** and moan about how boring it is are usually sh*tty white mages who spam cure, and slow the party down by not resting for MP during battles, buffing with haste, and debuffing with Dia. These whitemages are crap and really **** me off when I'm on another job and I'm in a group with one. If you do your stuff, you'll never run out of mp during any exp group. If you ever run out of mp, you're probably doing something wrong.

Absolutely not true. There are things you can do in this regard, but ultimately, the healer doesn't get to decide how much MP he spends to do his job. His party does.

I have parties that are a joke to manage and I have others that can run me dry in no time flat. This is not because I'm doing awesome in one party and I'm suddenly doing ****** in the next. It's because the latter parties are improperly built or full of incompetent melee.

If you're hasting melees you can throw slow on birds safely, because it will have no effect when reflected.

And you should be hasting melees.
