Since WHM/SCH seems to be the way to go these days, I was thinking...

If a WAR/WHM is a ghetto PLD, would a WHM/BLM be a ghetto RDM?

Tis better to remain silent and be thought the fool, than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

It'd be funnier if I didn't have to deal with people both playing and defending the use of WHM/BLM on an almost daily basis. It's been almost 2 years since WotG was released and the combo is the mage equivalent of, say, DRG/MNK: it adds something, but clearly nothing any rational player would want.

WHM/BLM still has niche uses.

Also, the official term for a WAR/WHM is buttersheep.

Buttersheep even has its own wiki article. It's a generic term for anyone that knowingly chooses a gimpy subjob despite the obvious advantages of other subjobs, but it was first used in reference to a WAR/WHM and most often refers to them.

Ahhh, that term makes me nostalgic for Wookie and Quor waaaayyyy back when.

And I still love WHM/BLM for transportation/ENMs. See, I'm the fastest person in our group to climb Ule Range. I can't tell you how many times that meant I've made it behind the Ice Wall while the weather was clear, then saw the weather change. Tractor + RIII has saved me literally hours of play time.

Of course, I don't recommend WHM/BLM anywhere else really at 75. Just sayin'.

Although I consider WHM/sch far superior in performance, I spend most of my time on WHM/blm these days. Why? Because I'm mostly a casual player now, who runs around doing minor quests, crafting, farming, and some lightweight activities. WHM/blm is possibly the best inter-zone traveling combo in the game.

Mobility is much more important than optimum performance for me, under normal circumstances. As a result, if I get the occasional help request from a friend who just popped some NM and needs me ASAP, that's what I'll likely end up coming as, unless they're willing to burn a few moments for me to change subjob.

Or if they just need some casual assistance, in which case changing subjob isn't worth the bother (by casual, I mean the sort of "15 second fight, come naked if you want" that seems to be in a lot of storyline quests nowadays). It's only when I know I have something high-intensity coming up that I set /sch.

Meh, I've got used to Moving around as WHM/SCH for pretty much everything.

/BLM really doesn't offer that much extra movility nowadays. Now that they added FoV books, every Teleport becomes a Warp home.

Besides; with the satchel, you can carry enough free Warp items for everyday's use.
Tavnazian Ring, Treat Staff II, Fourth/Ram/Cobra staff, Warp/Retrace scrolls, Nexus Cape, and even the 10 charges Necklace's/Staves/Rings for emergencies. I haven't bought a Warp cudgel since 2007 <_<

I prefer free warps opposed to all of those other such warps you have to pay gil/CP/tabs for though, especially in the case of tabs because they get used up rather quickly when I do my part to lower the Igqira Weskit population...

As stated, don't need /SCH for everything. I take out /RDM for avatar fights, /NIN for dual wield lulz, etc. already so if I know it's going to be something simple I have no qualms with taking /BLM for a free warp home afterward.

Thank you, Fynlar, for hurting my brain with the buttersheep link and the statistics i read there.

In return, i recently partied with a Sch who said they'd out nuke our BLM. it was 52 sync and our BLM was having a grand time with freeze. After a while i noticed no macro swaps on the behalf of the SCH and inquiries later discovered she was just nuking in apollos, because using all the ele staves was too inconvenient. =D

I just find it funny that you compare a whm subbing blm to a drg subbing mnk.

WHM/BLM still offers the same benefits as it did before SCH came around, of course for most cenarios WHM/SCH offers more and awesome benefits, specially if you are main healing an EXP or merit PT or NM/Boss fights, dynamis etc.

Yes, WHM/BLM is still as good as it was before WotG but subbing SCH offers awesome stuff, 100% agree on that.

Just to make sure, I love my WHM/SCH but still, scholar is not the only sub you can use, a WHM/BLM can still cure, do enfeebles, cure negativ status...

Just my 2 cents.

cheers,
Fro

And a DRG/MNK can still Jump and use a Polearm. Doesn't mean the sub is helping you in any meaningful way; which is what the poster above meant.

Besides, /SMN was a better healing sub over /BLM before SCH came out. Which is saying a lot.

In before /SMN vs /BLM debate.
