Just... gross. It didn't link up to anything in my experience, thank god.

Apparently, they sent a pain med over to my local pharmacy. I have no clue what it's going to be...

Pills run more than that. It's why heroin addiction is such a problem around where I live. Everyone addicted to pills ends up on heroin, because they can't AFFORD the pills.

People in my Government class ask the stupidest questions. We were talking about former Chief Justice Rehnquist wearing three gold bars on his uniform because he was a fan of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Someone asked if a justice could sell advertising on their robes.

Of course, you must learn about what's considered a sin, so you never ever do it. Smiley: wink Really I don't know what's more disturbing about that, a supreme court justice selling out, or the idea that it would be silly not to. Smiley: lol

Also, what's up with this?

Believe it or not, required at both high school and college level for both state and federal government.

And about the catch a student game, yeah, I heard about that. Going to keep my eyes peeled for anyone on Wednesday and see what goes down.

I'd be curious to know if anything happened. It sounded like there was some drama brewing over the whole thing.

Has potential at least. Smiley: popcorn

"The YCT is contributing to an environment of exclusion and disrespect among our students, faculty and staff by sending the message that certain students do not belong on our campus," Vincent said in a statement. Students found guilty of violating the honor code could face expulsion.

Smiley: lol

That is such a crock of sh*t. First off, the fact that we have a vice president of diversity at my university just shows how carefully they have to tiptoe about this issue.

Secondly, if a student was expelled over something like this, there would be so many lawsuits their grandchildren would still be arguing in court. I almost want something to happen just because it would be so freaking funny.

Yes, though I'm not sure about Aethien...

You're on a little blue island in a sea of red, close to ever encroaching blue shoreline that is the southern border (damn immigrants... Smiley: disappointed).

You can see it on the map. Smiley: nod

Oh, I know. But there's theories running around that thanks to growing minority populations, Texas might go Blue in the next few decades.

Who knows. It'll be interesting to see at least.

I love how Alaska is just white on that map.

Having gone to Rutgers, which is probably the most diverse school in the nation, that's just weird to me.

We all know they don't count, or Hawaii either for that matter. Really only the east coast, then there's California (which is out of play anyway), and a couple of swing states in the middle somewhere. Let's face it, Alaska just does their own thing anyway, and everyone leaves them to it. It's too cold up there 2/3rd of the year anyway to go bother them about it, and we have better stuff to do in the summer then to brave giant bugs.

But yeah, totally see Texas swinging blue unless something is done about it. Maybe that means the red shifts to be more moderate so they can keep the state red. Either way the current position is pretty weak and slated to grow weaker, barring some big fudge up on the other side.

It makes sense for UT to have a lot of problems with issues of race. It's a large state school, very recognizable, and the state is dominated by whites. When race is a factor in admissions, then all kind of just fun issues pop up and everyone gets their panties in a wad. Everyone wants something and those interests often conflict, and the end result is that if there's an issue involving both race and academics, it's probably happening at UT.

If anything Oregon is way too white; you Texans are impressively multi-cultural. Smiley: wink

Confusion arises from the fact that race is a spectrum and the censuses try to divide it into clear cut categories.

For the census I linked on Wikipedia, Hispanic and White aren't mutually exclusive. In Wikipedia's "Hispanic" article they write, "Because Hispanic roots are considered aligned with a European ancestry (Spain/Portugal), Hispanic/Latino ancestry is defined solely as an ethnic designation (similar to being Norse or Germanic). Therefore, a person of Hispanic descent is typically defined using both race and ethnicity as an identifier—i.e., Black-Hispanic, White-Hispanic, Asian-Hispanic, Amerindian-Hispanic or "other race" Hispanic."

For Texas, if you don't take into account Hispanic ethnicity when looking at the data, whites are 70.4%. If you do, then it's 45.3% The devil's in the details on this one, and I was referring to the 70.4% when I said "dominated." My bad on that one, I should have been more clear.

But the point was, race is usually at the forefront of admissions issues at UT, politics, protests, and pretty much anything that race conceivably could be a factor in.

I dunno, either way you still look multi-cultural. Smiley: wink

I remember that case thing, it's still working it's way through the courts then it seems? Affirmative action is such an nice idea, and such a not nice one when you get into the nitty gritty details. Debating the "race-neutral alternatives" and how practical they are, and whether or not the school had a "critical mass" of minorities isn't something that sounds like much fun. There's bound to be some drama there either way they rule. Smiley: frown

That whole idea about what you are and where it comes from, ugh, what a mess. My wife is considered "multi-race" on some government stuff because Japanese and Chinese are still considered different "races" on some forms, at other times she falls under "Asian and Pacific Islander" catch-all umbrella. It lends itself to inconsistencies. I imagine our children will have a much more fun time filling out government forms, and if this trend continues I weep for my great-grand-children... Smiley: lol

For all I know you're all wearing cowboy hats, driving pickup trucks with the confederate flag painted on it and say "y'all" a lot.
