You should have gone to a learning hospital and pooped on an intern.

I mean congratulations on successful, if slow, recovery.

Took a while, but I just realized that the Wrath card in Hearthstone is green, not yellow.

Nostalgia.

I'll be applying, but probably won't buy an early access package. Not for alpha at least. I usually don't touch a game before mid-late beta, so I don't judge it on things that aren't going to last long.

Beta access is only $20 though and launches a month after Alpha.

Timelapses look pretty cool already:

And here's a summary of the latest livestream the dev team did with gameplay visible, it looks pretty far along already.

It's my character at the top of the hunter spreadsheet. I went to great lengths to get a polar bear for the little hunter.

Edit: no wait, I got a different pet for her and ended up using a pic from somewhere else because the pet didn't cooperate and I got annoyed. It was my orc where I got the Polar bear at level 11 or something like that.

Ahh the pets. So much fun, and so darn annoying when they kept nerfing and buffing different ones. I had a green windserpent for the longest time, named Puff. Then I changed that to a scorpion when those got buffed, then it was a raptor or something, then I don't know, so many different pets in a short time there when all the rules kept changing.

Then I took a break and the changed everything about the class, a billion different pets, no ammo, no feeding them, etc etc. Sad times. Smiley: frown

WoW nostalgia is such a double-edged sword. The same battlegrounds are there at least, some of the same places in the world, your old characters are still present, but the game just feels completely different. Then you go to SWTOR, and play game that feels more like "old WoW," but the whole lightsaber-swinging pew pew is a jarring difference.

Can't always go home, or something. Smiley: frown

Played some WoW yesterday.

Ran some chests on Timeless Isle and bumped my Druid up to 500 ilvl (blue weapon, though). She's doing all right in raids (100k-ish DPS), but does crap damage in 5-mans due to lack of front-loaded damage, so I mostly tank them (in DPS gear, luls).

I still think the scaling in this expansion is nuts, but it's also the first expansion where I joined late, so it might just be that I'm behind. Not really sure what I want to do in the game, though. I would like to try out PvP, but I get obliterated in there with a mix of crafted and HP gear. It's not even close to fun (literally got one-shot by a Warlock the other day). Wish there was some kind of bolster in there.

And raiding is no fun, either, when you're constantly banging your head against the pain that is 25-man PUGs.

Guess I'll farm some more SoO for a weapon and then put the game on hold until Warlords of Draenor. I'd spend some time leveling up my other characters, but I frankly cannot be arsed with the unnecessarily painful leveling experience that is Pandaria. Go here, go there, unlock phases to unlock more phases and flight paths. Do this on every single character you've got. Yes, good idea. Smiley: banghead

Edit: Having a great time leveling up my Agent in SWTOR, though. Only problem is: I want to play a Juggernaut and an Operative at the same time, because both are awesome in different ways.

Sounds to me like you need to find yourself a raiding guild. If you want to put in that kind of effort, I mean. But you're probably not going to have too much fun with PuGs. Which is not surprising.

Don't have time for a raiding guild.

Wiped on the Sha of Pride (or whatever it's called) because people didn't spread out during Swelling Pride, and then we wiped a number of times before starting the fight because the Priest kept using Halo to AOE heal us after the previous wipe. Halo, healing allies and damaging enemies, has a pretty sick radius, and it kept hitting the boss when he used it.

The amount of raging happening after three consecutive wipes due to this was hilarious. Probably would have stayed if it hadn't cost me 50g in repairs each time.

That is the biggest problem with TOR - you want to level everything, because they all have unique stories.\

I'm forcing myself to only level one character at a time. I have the two force buffs, so I'm working on an Agent now. Then it'll be a Trooper or a BH for the final buff.

After that, though, all hell might break loose... I don't do well with choices, lol.

PuG raids are the works of satan and raiding guilds suck donkey dick unless you get a hardcore one in which case it becomes a second job.

If there was a happy medium I'd love to raid again but I won't enjoy the stupid timesink of a hardcore raiding guild and the more casual raiding guilds are filled with retards, slackers and failures because they're all friends and nobody has the guts to kick their voidzone eating asses.

Generic casual 10-man group:

4 people who could be in a serious guild but aren't because of time commitments, real life schedules, or personal preference.
2 people who have their main characters in better raiding guilds, and are just here for fun on their alts.
2 people who are friends/relatives of other members and responsible for 90% of the wipes.
1 random person who just happened to be online in Stormwind/Org. at the time.
1 spot you hope to fill before you get to a boss that you'll need 10 people for.

And one of the first three is leading the raid and getting anger managenent classes to deal with the last 2 groups.

Edit: last 3 groups now spg edited his post.

Oh and if I knew I could find a guild that raids, say, 3 nights and 3 hours a night where everyone knows all the fights, has all the flasks and whatnot and nobody needs to be summoned and everyone knows how to move and stack cooldowns etc. I'd be very tempted to resub.

I know it's only a dream though.

It was the best thing about the hardcore guilds. No whining, no bullsh*t, no slackers. Just business and getting on with what you're there for.

Of course the 6x6 hours of raiding a week during progression (alts not included) is a rather large downside.

Yeah, I'm feeling the same as Maz on my priest. I switched guilds to one a friend is in, but she's pretty busy with school so she's not on much except for when she's raiding. My roommate and I are slowly making progress on getting our mage and shaman up to 90, but until then there's not much fun in doing dungeons and LFR groups by myself. We'd be making faster progress, but one of the computers is hooked up to the only TV in the house, so we have to fight the boyfriend and the boyfriend's brother for use of it. Once I get the chance to buy a new AC adapter for the little TV, that won't be an issue anymore.

From what I can tell, MoP seems to be pretty hit or miss. For the people it's working for, it's working really well. And for the people it isn't, it's a pretty firm "Nah." Which obviously isn't to say they hate it, just that it holds little to no sway over them.

I haven't seen many people who are saying it's fun enough and such.

The hard thing about 'fun enough' is the $15/mo. There's way too many F2P MMOs and other cheap games out there to make 'fun enough' be worth the money these days.

Jade Forest can still DIAF though. Smiley: lol

That... hasn't been my experience with raiding at all. In my guild on A-Proudmoore we're probably what you'd call in between casual and hardcore. We have 10/14 heroics down, a full group of people who are there 90% of the time, minimal raging, inside jokes and other random sh*t, etc. I think dividing raiding guilds into two categories like that is unfair and also completely untrue.

Honestly, I couldn't be happier with my guild. They're the reason I still play as much as I do. But I guess I might be the exception to the rule???

His Excellency Aethien wrote:

We don't have whining, bullsh*t, or slackers either. We have people who show up and get stuff done, and we somehow have fun doing it too (because it's still just a game). We also are in the top 10 guilds on our server, without having to do 6x6 hours of raiding a week. We raid 4 days a week, 2.5 hours at a time. 10 hours of raiding a week, total. We are nowhere near what you would call hardcore, and not causal at all either.

I know what casual guilds are like, I know what hardcore guilds are like. I've been in both. My guild is neither.

For myself, I was just paraphrasing my own guild back in the day. Reminiscing about the death of my soul and such. Smiley: lol

As arbitrary as the distinction has always been, I felt there was some place for it. Something like: if an otherwise decent member of your raid was holding back progress would they get replaced by someone better? (assuming you had someone of course) The "yes" or "no" answer was the dividing line, the talent level of the group being secondary.

ok. how much will that cost?

Free at release and for a limited amount of time on open beta, $20 for closed beta and unlimited open beta (+some goodies), $60 or $100 for Alpha plus more goodies.

@Fishy, guilds like yours are very, very few and far between. They definitely exist but the vast majority fall in roughly one or the other category with varying levels of success and time spent. And with EU guilds leaning very heavily towards the spend more time thing, the world top 10 guild on the server back then had what basically amounted to 24/7 raids during progression and you better be able to take time off work for that or you can forget about raiding at all and the aforementioned 6x6 hours would be reduced to as little as is needed to clear everything as soon as possible which would probably be one or two nights at 3-4 hours each.

The problem was that it was either something like that with the top 10 guilds on the server and then a massive drop off in quality. Of course at the best time there were 5 or 6 guilds in the world top 250 on that server alone so the server culture was very hardcore raiding oriented.

My old guild was kind of like Fishy's. At the start of Cata we had 4 or 5 different raid teams. One was super hardcore and they made us the top Horde guild on the server, and IIRC in the top 400 in NA. The rest had different levels of dedication. I think two others were probably in between hardcore and casual. The one I was in we only raided once a week, but we tried to have a hardcore attitude. To the point where shortly before T12 released, the raid leader "let go" a couple people for lack of performance. I almost got let go too, but I was able to prove that I could perform with a different toon. I just had issues with the unpredictability of the Boomkin spec. I really enjoyed that raid group, but sadly I had to quit once I moved back in with my parents. There was a casual Friday night alt raid too, and that one was pretty fun to participate in.

When I came back to the game last month, my old guild had de-evolved into a single 10 man raiding group, with maybe one or two other people online during non raiding times. Guild chat is dead silent. It kind of depressed me.

im hoping flex raiding makes raiding for me a possibility in the next x-pac

seems like it will be easier to manage and get stuff done on a relaxed schedule, hopefully with competent people. which should be easier to fill with flex as as long as you have at least 8 good raiders you are ready to go.

probably dreaming though...

I think I'm going to make beef bourguignon tonight. It's time for a nice rich dish.
