It's one of the best selling albums of all time, I mean I'm no fan of Micheal Jackson but you won't hear me deny that Thriller is an amazing album (although that's all because of Eddie Van Halen's riff on Beat It of course Smiley: wink).

Although I have to say Rumours gets an edge for me simply because of the backstory, it's crazy they even managed to make an album at all.

Huh, well, maybe I should get an emulator for the 3DS and Pokemon Black or X/Y then.

Also also, I hope the neighbors don't mid my awful singing/shouting along to Go Your Own Way...

You can always wait until I've actually seen some of the story and can tell you if it's worth it. Smiley: lol

There's no 3DS emulator anyway, so no need for that.

And I'm not sure I like the new Hunter x Hunter. It's overly cheerful so far and completely lacking the darkness that the original anime showed. I'm also wondering how they handle the death and destruction that the story is filled with. It was kind of accepted and normal already in the original but this overly cheerful tone and mass murder, ripping out hearts and blowing up limbs are not things I see working well together.

Texas vs OU was fun and awesome. Hook 'em horns, OU still sucks, etc.

The drive is a *****, though. Took me 5 hours to get back home, when it should have taken three. But a mix of bad weather, bad drivers, and bad construction is pretty much bad in general.

If you're into great backstory, then listen to The Traveling Wilburys and spend an afternoon jumping links on Wikipedia and reading about them. Read the sad story about the guitar in the rocking chair on End of the Line, or about the Bruce Springsteen references in Tweeter and the Monkey Man. Among a lot of other stuff. And listen to some great music.

I think Tweeter and the Monkey Man is my second favorite Dylan song, after Tangled up in Blue.

You need a promotion to upper management and a McMansion on campus somewhere to live in as part of your new contract.

Ha, I wish.

I actually saw the worst accident of my life earlier this week. Happened right before it came into view - the suv immediately behind the wrecked cars was still coming to a stop. At least 4 cars, at a level of damage I didn't think was possible outside an action movie. Apparently, no one died (or at least they weren't in the news), and that's a ******* miracle.

And to be 100% fair, on a normal day I can more or less just check out from the world on my commute. As long as I don't come out of my commuting amnesia before I get to work, I can stay relatively happy.

Would you still get paid if you can't get to work because the highway is washed away?

Being sick sucks. Almost as much as being in a household with 3 other sick people. At least I can be miserable at work where there are fewer people telling me they have to use the potty, or fighting over who's turn it is to play with the barbie car, or choose what video we're watching.

Well, I'm on salary 3 days a week, and that's supposed to be changing to 5.

So... maybe, sorta?

How's that work? Like they figure out what 24 hours of work would be a week would cost and expect about that much from you or something?

3 8-hour days, essentially. I've been working fulltime since at least June, possibly May, just by submitting additional hours on top of it. Which just means I work full time without the full time benefits or job security.

I'd say that's awful terrible and such, but so many people are doing things like that these days it's almost like a broken record. So I dunno, yay America? Smiley: frown

Yeah it sucks, but it's not like I've had any other options. So yeah, I commute 3-4 hours a day to a job where I don't get benefits or have job security. Yay!

I should say that I HAVE signed an offer letter for a full-time position. But that was two weeks ago, and there still hasn't been any movement there...

And here I've been thinking you weren't posting for other reasons.

I mean, they're giving out the Nobel Prizes in the Sciences now and the prize in Biology went to three guys who discovered how cells use small proteins for transport. I was trying to decide which was you. (I had my money on the guy in the middle because he looks so West Coast)

He does look west coast, no goofy mustache either which is a win.

But I'm not working on anything that's interesting enough to win a noble prize. The latest submission with my name on it: "Accurate Label-Free Protein Quantitation with High- and Low-Resolution Mass Spectrometers"

Woo hoo. Smiley: disappointed

I could TL;DR it into something like "don't waste your money on an expensive instrument if you just want to do routine analyses."

Basically; it's a little surprising, but not really so much so. It's the kind of practical methods development stuff that has to get done at some point, but that no one really likes to do (or read about for that matter, so we'll see if anyone accepts it Smiley: lol).

Good luck on that last bit, although I guess people will skim over and accept it?

On a sidenote, why did it take so long for Higgs & friend to get a nobel prize for the theory of the Higgs Boson? From what I've read/know about it it's a huge thing.

Most stuff takes a long time to get a prize for, it's just the way they set it up. You'll have to confirm anything discovered and that could take a while (as in just happening for that darn boson, which is why I'm guessing he got it now). You also want to give a prize to something that's hard some kind of large/transformational effect on the field.

Sometimes it can take a while for the effects of a discovery to trickle out. Like in medicine it can easily take 15 years to go from the initial discovery to a treatment, and another few years to get people actually using the pill. These guys who found something really interesting in their initial post-doc are getting rewards for it once they're old and gray. At that point you use that leverage to get yourself a better appointment at a bigger name school, run your own department, get all kinds of funding, trophy wife, Ferrari, etc.

Tis the way of things.
