God, that Supergirl series is super cringy. They say it gets drastically better (as in: someone must have fired the writer) after the first 5-6 episodes, but ****, I'm not sure I'll make it. So far it's been a cardboard copy of all the other "coming of age" superhero series that probably started with Smallville, most notably Arrow and The Flash (created by the same guys).
You've got the mysterious boss who seems to have his own sinister reasons for helping out the hero. You've got the hot sidekick and the funny sidekick who know the hero's secret and help out with logistics and communications. There's a love triangle between the girl, the nerdy soul mate, and the mature hot guy. The villain is of course someone from the hero's past. Bunch of 30-year-old supermodels posing as 20-year-old social outcasts. Also, this is now James "Jimmy" Olsen.
I'm all for diversity on TV, but they turned a ginger nerd into a black jock. That grinds my gears. And he can't act to save his life, so it all smells like affirmative action.
I guess I'll give it a few more chances. I'll admit, I'm interested in seeing how they supposedly dig this one out of the grave mid-season. Also, Melissa Benoist wears either skintight jeans or skirts in every episode. It... intrigues me.
