Hotel room, lol. And it was shockingly good, because it was the daily deal on hotels.com. About $106 a night, which is awesome for a 4-star hotel in that area.

[EDIT]

The hotel I wanted to stay in was $206 a night.

A, I had to take vacation time, and the bus ticket to the city is $40 round trip. So I might as well just stay if I want to spend extended time there.

B. I need to check out neighborhoods in that area, because I'm looking to move. But I really haven't spent much time in Brooklyn (or Jersey City/Hoboken). I COULD afford rent in Manhattan (with roommates, obviously), but I don't think I want to, because it would be a big percentage of my paycheck. But not knowing anything about neighborhoods elsewhere makes looking for rooms difficult.

Now I just need to try and figure out my plan. Because 4 days is an unfortunately short time. I might just pay for an extra night, to be honest.

I figured you'd know more about Brooklyn than most people here. All I know is that it was probably once called Breukelen when it was still Dutch.

If you limit the population of NYC down to just Brooklyn, it would still be the 4th largest in the country. But beyond Williamsburg, I know nothing about its neighborhoods.

Which is why I'm gonna go 'splorin'.

Four of the top ten most populated areas in the US are New York City boroughs. The only time I really go into Brooklyn is when I go to Sixpoint Brewery. Brooklyn is also primarily a Yankees territory, so by nature they're evil creatures of pure loathing.

Looking at google maps, Amsterdam would comfortably fit in the area of Brooklyn and Queens and the majority of space in Amsterdam is low rise buildings, especially in the city center.

The problem with the Mets isn't that they suck, it's that they suck for no discernible reason.

It's pretty much like a full group of level 90 people who can't clear Icecrown Citadel. On paper, they should breeze through.

Should.

There is one huge bad thing about it depending on your point of view: the game tells you nothing. Like, nothing at all. Got a quest? Solve it yourself, no waypoints no question marks no nothing and you'll have to find the hints yourself from asking people.

Seriously, I found a love letter to a woman from the guy she was cheating on her (murdered) husband with which said their love would be so much easier if only her husband was dead. I take the letter to her and after a short conversation the quest log updates with "she denies that this proves anything".

And that was it, no further clue.

Edit: You also get bonuses for actually role playing, including arguments within your group. You can choose between threatening, charming or reasoning with people to get an answer and you get bonuses or lose points depending on how you act. It's kinda fun if you're roleplaying the 2 characters in your party differently because they'll start arguing with each other.

And then I lost a few hours worth of progress because I accidentally used quick load instead of quick save... Smiley: motz

That sounds like it's right up my alley. Okay, maybe not the "no help at all" part, but the character building sounds fun.

There's a quest in FFXIV that's the no help sort, and it gives a unique (or something) quest to each player. But the hint is so freaking cryptic that I've pretty much just never made any progress. They send you to talk to an NPC about it, and he's just "lol, that makes no sense. IDK man."

Like.

I figured out that one above, it just takes looking in every nook and cranny for that one item so you can get to the next bit so you can find the next clue etc. It is pretty logical so far you'll just get stumped if you happen to miss something.

It pays to be OCD and check every box, basket and corner of every room.

I rebound the quick load button to something much further away than f8 (with f5 as quick save).

Also, I have learned that saving often is needed, getting ambushed by nearly a dozen skeletons is not something you make it out of alive...

The whole trial and error thing does get a little exhausting after a while, especially since what's dead stays dead so I think I may have permanently bodged a quest because I thought I could open the chest behind some people who then attacked me. I think I had to save those people from death by zombies...

Well, killing people before they become zombies is a legitimate method to save them from becoming zombies. I mean, zombification or death is almost always the inevitable conclusion.

You make a good point except that I already cleared out all the zombies in the area and as mentioned above, they don't respawn.

edit: of course, their commander doesn't know that I killed them and not zombies like their friends so I may or may not be able to salvage the quest that way.
