Shouldn't be a problem for them. Australia didn't exactly look sharp. I'm just looking forward to Germany/Portugal today. [:popcorn;]

Oh right, and we play too... Smiley: rolleyes

I'm cheering for the dutch this year, so hopefully they do well.

Aethien seems to be down on them, but my impression was that they had a really solid team this year. I don't follow soccer thoroughly enough to really have any opinion on the matter though.

We have a pretty weak team compared to other tournaments, plenty of young talent but especially the defense is young and inexperienced at this level of play. Defending against guys like Pele or Finnbogason in the Dutch league is a world away from defending against players like Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Balotelli etc.
Add to that that of our 2 defensive midfielders who do have experience at that level one of them (Strootman) is injured and not at the world cup which leaves precious few players with experience at the highest level of play that exceeds about 10 matches.

The Dutch team also performed historically badly 2 years ago at the European Championship and in a group with the world champion and Chile (ranked 1 higher on the world ranking than the Netherlands) confidence in the team was pretty low.

Drama, crazy dude thinking he's in a streetfight, Germany playing brilliantly and Ronaldo making comic faces. The game had plenty of entertainment.

I think being manager for the Russians is even better than being an athlete. Supposedly the guy gets a salary of €8,300,000 per year (so $10.5 million-ish)

I see the Dutch women got revenge for our Aussie men winning the hockey. It is actually a bit surprising we do so well in the hockey as it is way down the list for participation rates and gets very little media attention other than during Olympics or World Cups.

Other way 'round. But both are kinda sorta revenge for 16 years ago when the world cup was in Utrecht and the Dutch men beat Australia 3-2 after being down 0-2 with 10 minutes to go and the Australian women beating the Dutch women.

I was there as a 10 year old, it was awesome.

Also, with football taken into account we're leading 2-1 Smiley: wink

actual list of how much managers are paid (per year) at the world cup.

And that with England being on the brink of elimination and Russia starting poorly with a draw against south Korea. Not very good value for money those two, especially when you consider that Hodgson has been a manager for 43 years with many teams of repute and has never managed to win a prize, not a single one.

I'd advise to take a giant axe with you to make negotiations simpler, but then I realize you'd be negotiating with people with giant axes so it might not work out quite as planned. So tie axe blades to a small child and feed it espresso and unleash that dervish in their shop.

I've never really heard anything positive or negative about them. Looking at the site you need to know which brands are good and which aren't cause they seem to sell everything from utter garbage to fairly high end stuff.

They got the address wrong, or some tard packed the bag in the wrong car, and I guess they just can't resend stuff once it gets returned to them, which is admittedly quite silly. I don't feel like yelling at some poor telephone support person, though. Not his/her fault some job placement reject at the storage facility can't read labels.

God, I love learning new stuff.

Apparently, we're all girls until our male hormone production kicks in. That's kinda weird. It's why men have nipples, for instance. The default human template is female. Also, earlobes might might be helping us keep our balance...

In googling that, I came across:

Quote:
Several studies suggest that attached earlobes increase the attractiveness of an individual, due to increased facial symmetry, and increase the likelihood of successfully reproducing.

Huh. I can feel the beginnings of a Wikipedia binge coming on. Where will the rabbit hole lead this time?

Having just finished up a semester in Genetics, I can tell you that I disliked Bio, but disliked Genetics marginally less. It was a hard course, but it was at least interesting. I learned some cool things, like, did you know that we humans have large segments of our DNA that were essentially left over from viral infections hundreds of millions of years ago? Turns out infections are very messy things.

I mean, yeah, it makes sense. I just had this previous mental image of the chromosome being some kind of immaculate thing that any and all screwups would have, if not catastrophic, at least noticable results. Like, apoptosis because the cell was no longer able to function correctly in the event of a mutation or viral infection. Not only was I wrong, I was very, very wrong. The chromosome is a cluster@#%^.

Also, it's Computer Science, but I had to take a Biology sequence culminating in a course on Genetics.

Because my degree falls under the College of Natural Sciences, not the Engineer school as is common in most colleges.

I'm getting a Bachelor of the Sciences degree, which for my school apparently means at least a general understanding of most of the science fields. In addition to the core science requirements (pretty much just one science sequence consisting of two classes) for all majors that's University wide, I had to take two science sequences, with a choice of Bio, Physics, Geology, Chemistry, or some upper division, post-Calc mathematics (gross). This is all on top of the two semesters of Astronomy I took to meet the general core science requirement.

I chose Geology and Bio, since I live with two Geo majors and I already had some Bio credit. It sucks because I take a LOT of stuff not relevant to my major. It's at least interesting, though, and I am only one class off from a minor in Bio because of this.

Only issue is, the College of Natural Sciences doesn't offer minors. So that sucks.

Also, I was one of only two non pre-med majors in my Genetics class of ~150. And pre-med students scare the sh*t out of me.

Ahh, not at all what I thought (Thank God). Well, if you ever decide to take things further, having all that science is going to come in handy. My Pharmacy degree was 169 credits, back when it was only five years and we didn't get a Pharm.D. degree. I had enough credits for a double major in Bio and Chem but we were given a B.S. Pharmacy. I had a great LSAT score, but only average grades, and I still got into Law School because they gave greater weight to my Pharmacy credits than the other guy's Poly Sci credits. So, good for you.

Quick side story - I remember having one class across campus in the business school and one day while I was leaving the building after class I heard two guys talking behind me. One was complaining because that semester was a heavy semester for him, because he was carrying 12 full credits! That may have been the semester I had 19 credits including Organic Chem and Physics, and three labs (I think Micro was the third).
