Wait, is Danish like German, where you can just combine words to form new words and do whatever the **** you want and expect the rest of us to just accept that?

Yes.

Well, sort of the other way around. We use compound words a lot, because separating words create new meanings.

Example of silly Danish compounding:

Quote:
Multiplikationsudregningstabelshæfteopbevaringsreolsproduktionsfacilitet

Means "Production facility of storage shelves of boxes for notebooks for the calculations of multiplication tables".

Quote:
Multi-plikations-udregnings-tabels-hæfte-opbevarings-reols-produktions-facilitet

Well, to be fair, you guys use compound words as well, but you're not as consistent with them as we are.

Butterfly, for instance, is a compound word, like the Danish translation, "sommerfugl". However, butterfly wings isn't compounded. Why not? The wings belong to the butterfly, so they should be butterflywings (sommerfuglevinger).

I've been wondering why quantum physics has so many compound words. Wavefunction, eigenvalue. Actually, that's two.

Whatever. Never mind me.

And one of them is half Dutch too!

It's actually half German. When you look at early papers on QM, it's like... GERMAN WORDS EVERYWHERE. It used to be "eigenwert", now it's "eigenvalue".

I haven't.

Also, just home from Barcelona, my feet are killing me and my cats don't seem to have missed me at all. Barcelona was beautiful though, the food was excellent and as it turns out those Basques know how to brew a good beer too (also, lol 100cl mugs of beer on the breakfast menu alongside cappuccino and orange juice).

Mugs of beer?

Holidays sound nice. I guess I'll see you next month Smiley: tongue

I found a project I really want to do and would like to start over the holiday but none of the universities where I have access to computing facilities has a license. There's one for the Edinburgh cluster, but time on the UK's national computer is expensive. Smiley: mad I will ask my supervisor after the exam if there's an option somehow.

Mugs of beer, steins of beer, whatever you want to call em.

Also I might post some pics soon. I didn't take many photos aside from the Sagrada Familia (most impressive unfinished building ever).

Cats have a very indirect way of appreciating their masters.

Sort of like women.

What? WHAT?! Smiley: confused

If they try scratching me they're in real trouble. I am the guy that feeds them and scratches their chin though.

My sister has this cat that's pretty much actually a dog. He plays fetch, and is super loud and affectionate when they come home.

He's also a cat, in that he snaps and attacks you without provocation, though.
