Lern2google.

Edit: they're now reporting winds over 140km/h (that's 87mph for those of us who can't google). And after a woman died in Amsterdam because a tree fell on her people in the north west of the country are now advised to stay indoors. I'm pretty sure this is the worst storm we've had in quite a few years.

You should probably stay inside, then. I'm thinking your mother would understand a delay in the gift, it you don't have any other time before her birthday.

And holy crap, a 3-bedroom, 3-balcony apartment for 680 euros a month? That's cheaper than most 1-bedrooms I've seen here... Hell, it's cheaper than the "two" bedroom apartment I lived in during college...

I'd also like to point out that the expected commute is... equal to the expected commute I have now. Smiley: mad

And then a tree fell and missed my house by about a meter (that's 3 feet for you Horsey).

Also, I had to get out to shop but I only went to the nearest store, I think I'll either go into town later this week or order something online if I can find what I want.

Yeah, stay inside, don't die.

Also, one year ago today was the day after superstorm Sandy. That was a really weird day.

The apartment I'm moving into next month is $1700 U.S. Most expensive thing I've ever had to do but that's college for ya.

I'm not particularly worried. The tree that fell wasn't big enough to have done too much damage to my house and the worst of the storm is over. It mostly just means everything is covered in a thick layer of fallen leaves and dead branches.

I do live in the place in the country where it was the least severe though and the news is saying this is the worst storm in the Netherlands since 1990. With one death, a few injured, lots of delayed trains and some destroyed cars (and a ~$4.5 million inflatable training center) the damages don't seem all that bad. Nature isn't all that scary if you live in the Netherlands.

Yup. Mine was like 1345 or something, which was an amazing price for New Brunswick, and my "room" was just this tiny area partitioned off with a false wall, and we didn't have a living room. Smiley: lol

Not typically that scary here. Every so often we get some bad storms. We have plenty of sharks, but there hasn't been an attack on a person since the 1950s or something. Occasional tornadoes that almost never even cause injuries.

We have some predatory animals, but I can't tell you the last time I heard of someone being hurt by one. Bobcats are small and shy. Foxes are even less impressive (though on rare occasion they wander close enough to grade schools that they need to have recess inside). Black Widows probably won't kill you (at least if you only get one bite), though it'll hurt like hell.

We have black bears, but I can't tell you the last time someone was attacked by a bear in NJ, let alone killed. Our biggest issue with bears is that people feed them (which is illegal), or they get into dumpsters, which puts local pets and small children at risk if they live too close to the edges of town.

Then there's the low chance of getting Lyme's disease from ticks.

That's pretty much the extent of the scary stuff nature throws at us. By far the leading cause of death in NJ is being American (heart disease), being human (cancer), or being from NJ ("unintentional injury").

This, but just remember it's more important to not die than to stay inside.

Wait, where are you living? We're at $1280ish or something for our place, and it's 1300 sq. ft...

You're making me miss my apartments, those things were kinda cozy in retrospect.

I can imagine. Is it like a studio, or does it have a separate bedroom?

I like that they have a pantry there for you. I dunno about down there, but it's so hard to find a decent one in apts up here. They make a ton of difference too. Nice to have a place to actually store some stuff.

Us.

Most annoying thing being the layout of the master bedroom. Horribly inefficient use of space there. Smiley: frown

I don't have no fancy professional layouts but I don't want to feel excluded so I made an awesome and hideously inaccurate one in paint.

I have no idea what the square footage is, but my place is 880 a month for a 3 bedroom, 2 bath duplex. That's split up among 3 people. You guys are getting ripped off. Or maybe I'm just lucky. And I still feel like 880 a month rent is expensive.
