I like the short hair. Smiley: nod

I got my hair did on Friday. I was fed up with it, post-hospitalization, so I just buzzed it all off. So, naturally, weather responds with a big snowstorm...

I think I said you kind of look like Neil Patrick Harris, circa Dougie Howser, with short hair.

re: pricing

I dont know if I'd be competitive, but my godfather owns a fairly large construction company, and I dont call him that because of any legal or religious reasons.

It´s a little shorter now and shaved up on the sides, I figure I'll go back to get the sides and back shaved in a couple weeks and let it grow on the top.

Shave in a couple of racing stripes, and dye them something neon. 80s never die! Smiley: nod

Also, everything my kids needed to know in life them learned from The Sims. Last weekend we got a "how babies are made" book, this weekend we explained that everyone dies. Yay for video games.

Good lord, Windows 8 is just a bucket of "why the **** would they change that?!", but at least it's fast. Thank god for Classic Shell.

Now to reinstall 900 GB of data.

I'm even running 8.1 and they managed to break some stuff in this version that they missed in the first release. Some of the stuff is mind-boggling as well. Like, why would they remove the ability to customize the font color of window titles? It's black no matter which color you choose for the window border. Black text on a black background is just awesome.

Baffling.

But the new computer is awesome, and coupled with the minimalistic OS, I'm getting some insane boot times. 38.2 seconds, according to my stopwatch.

Remove W8.1, install W7. If you have to download or install everything again you might as well not go with W8.

It's the only OS available, unfortunately.

But with some creative 3rd party installation, it now looks almost like Win7.

Torrent W7, burn it to a disc and format your HDD (or better yet, spend some money on an SSD and boot up in 10 seconds) and install W7. It'll take a few hours but you won't have to deal with the abomination that is W8.

You definitely don't want to move from win 8 to win 7. You'll get used to the interface changes, and it'll stop bugging you. The performance impact of windows 8 is not negligible.

It's an utter ******* failure as far as UI design though and that annoys me so very much. It's just ******* retarded, clumsy, cumbersome, counter-intuitive and complicated.

And it doesn't even look good either! Not that any Windows has ever looked good but W8 still isn't good.

I had 2 basic complaints about Win8:

1) My desktop doesn't have a touch screen.
2) The anti-virus software that came pre-installed on my wife's laptop was incompatible with the OS.

The first one stinks of a "one-size-fits-all" solution that doesn't fit, and is just annoying on a laptop/desktop. The second opened us up to all kinds of virusy stuff until I figured out what was wrong. Needless to say the Mrs. won't go near Win8 again at this point, even if they fix all the problems and make it awesome. So we basically have an unused laptop at this point. I may not "hate" it to the same degree, but am tired enough of dealing with the fallout not to want to bother with Win8 again.

Point 1 is my biggest problem with W8. It's so monumentally retarded I don't know where to begin.

Can't be ****** Besides, I just installed some 3rd party software and now it's tolerable. I only experience the tile *********** (their touchscreen thing) when I open some of the core settings, like user accounts and such (no, I don't need a fullscreen window to change my profile's picture, and I certainly don't need this full screen to be plum purple).

Having to "log out" first before you could shut down the computer was also annoying.

Because of the snowstorm hitting NJ right now, my 1.5 hour commute home took 5 hours. FIVE ******* HOURS.

In Win8?

Edit: Oh, the joy of reinstalling 700 GB worth of games. I'm installing five games at a time over three different game clients. I bet this Win8.1 installation wishes it'd never grabbed my attention in the first place.
