Never played one of these before. I've read all the guides ad wiki pages, and they're either useless or confusing. SO, two questions for the forum:

1) What is/ae the druid's most important attribute(s)?

What's the best druid sec for soloing and does it differ from dungeons?

TIA

If you've even glanced at Druid guides, you'd know they can spec as a physical or magic DPS, Tank, or Healer. And obviously they are going to require completely different stats.

So are you really going to ask what the most important stats are without ANY supplemental info about what you'd like to play?

There's no best spec. Not even for leveling. Relative survivability, speed and efficiency change as you level. If you want fast queue times, you'll want to be a tank or a healer. But they're slower at solo content. So you need to decide what you want.

Once you have the slightest clue what you're looking for, then we can tell you more.

1) Intellect or Agility (Caster or Feral)

2) Feral has traditionally had the advantage; as you could use your mana for healing yourself then shift into feral and use your energy (kitty form) to kill stuff. Make sure you get talent points that help with shape-shifting and feral healing.

3) The part diglett said about lots of stuff being viable. Smiley: nod

I guess I should have been more specific. My play style is almost always solo, at least to level 60. Of late, I've been doing a lot of helping mid-level guild members, so eventually I'll probably take on a group role as either healer or tank (One thing I like about druids is that they can do both). I have no compunctions at all about a mid-career spec change. So, from day one, assume solo, feral, DPS if pulled into a group.

solo . . . so boring and takes so long to level. . .

I am not a big fan of mid-career spec changes, I'm so not for it I have a Plate DPS (DK) and Plate Tank (Warrior) and to this day it feels wrong and weird when I try to swap the roles (to work on one character). I just can't pick up how the other one does it "right".

My Warrior pretty much did 95% of his leveling through Randoms as Tank. You almost never have to wait for more then 30sec, the longest I had to wait was 5min (i took it as a bad sign, so I left Q). EXP will be great and you will have some of the better gear you can have for your levels due to running all the dungeons over and over. That is also the draw back, you run them over and over. You get to know them inside and out, but every random done with a strange group could make the experience hell.

I have a druid @50 who I don't play much anymore. He was feral kitty for pvp (back before I took a break, the exp in PVP was actually decent. I've been told that has been nerfed at least twice) and bear for tanking randoms for quick exp/levels to always be on the higher end of Battleground brackets.

If you are helping guildies who are around your level, setting up nights to run randoms could be a winning ticket. And picking on of the more needed roles (tank or healer) is always nice for later down the road. Also makes getting into randoms a bit easier if you are one of the needed roles. Qing up as 3 DPS still takes so long when you could shorten the time, and possibly find you like the role more then you thought. I'm the best worst tank out there. I'll do me best and learn from my mistakes. I found I enjoy it more then I thought I would, so much I have barley touched my DK since my return almost a month ago.

I had no issues leveling solo pretty quickly (best time is 6 days if I remember correctly). What the heck are you doing Sand?

Yes, yes he is doing it wrong.

Pick up quests at hub, do quests, return when quests are done, pick up more quests, repeat.

Druid is a ridiculously easy class to level and it's moderately complex to the point that you won't be bored by it. The first 10 levels pretty much suck, though. Anytime I get the urge to level another druid and I get one made, I'm harshly reminded that for the first 10 levels you're basically a crappy mage.

Now you are only a Mage for the first 6 levels. Cat form is trained at 7 now, iirc.

Though they don't have early level heals anymore, which can be surprisingly painful with the upped Cata damage.

Seriously.

Not only not having just a HoT spell at the very low levels, but not having any heal that packs a good punch the vast majority of the leveling process is just annoying.

Bandages are for people who aren't Druids.

Level to 7, switch to Cat Form, laugh all the way to level 85.

Ollamnh, have you read the Druid guide? It's fairly comprehensive and easy to navigate since each talent tree is given its own section.

As for leveling as Feral, you can go with a Lolferal spec and a healing spec and fulfill every role in a dungeon (though not at the same time, unfortunately). It would require you to keep two sets of gear up to date, though, which can be pretty expensive. Alternatively, do like I did and get a Lolferal spec and a Bear spec. You use the Lolferal spec for soloing (increased survivability enables you to solo group content) and the Bear spec for dungeons. You won't be able to heal, but you only have to keep one set of gear upgraded.

Leveling up as Feral has been pretty easy ever since they gave us Ferocious Bite and Frenzied Regeneration back in patch 1.3.

It's not really expensive to keep two sets, lol. Just mildly annoying. Generally speaking, most quests don't force you to choose between, say, leather caster gloves and leather melee gloves. And if they do, meh--it's not like leveling dungeons are hard enough that you'd need to care about your gear being slightly out of date. The only cost is in buying better bags to hold the extra gear, and the cost of dual spec (which he'd need if doing 2 feral specs anyway).

Plus, healing without a casting set is viable until at least the mid 20s (or was when I was still playing over a year ago). The biggest pain is the lack of Int, for mana, but if you're running dry without gear at that level, there's a good chance you'd run dry with it as well.

And the time saved from instant queue times will be far outweighed by the small amount it takes to assemble and manage a second set from quest rewards. Smiley: schooled

Ahh, the Aquatic Form quest.

Why, yes, I'd really like to RUN from Moonglade to Westfall and back, Mr. Druid quest giver.

Trust me, you don't have to be both tank and healing spec'd to get fast queues. I had instant queues when I leveled my Shaman and Priest (healers) and I had instant queues when I leveled my Warrior, Death Knight and Paladin (tanks). I leveled my Druid through Northrend in a Feral/Resto combo and it was 50/50 which spec was desired. Being able to perform either role gives you a free pass to any dungeon party.

Of course, it's been a while since I leveled up anything in WoW, but I'm guessing tanks still get a fairly quick queue, especially while leveling, so I'd go Feral/Feral simply because Lolferial/Bear or Kitty/Bear makes leveling a breeze.

Even after 25 levels, there's something I don't understand. When a feral druid fights in animal form, what effect, if any, does his armor exert? Does his animal form actually get a defensive boost from his armor, or does he only get the abilities benefits imbued in the armor (+ agility/ haste, etc.)?. At this point, it seems like my cat form is more effective than the bear. What I don't know is whether a push to harden my armor base would improve the bear form's fighting skills.

Anybody know how this works?

Short Answer: Yes, it does.

Short answer that sounds douchey but isn't meant that way: Read the tooltips more carefully.

Long answer:

All stats on your armor will be transferred or multiplied by the form you enter. Bear form, for instance, will increase your armor and stamina values. It will also increase your threat generation. Possibly other things I forget.

I THINK cat form gives a flat bonus to crit and then a buff to attack power?

Moonkin form used to buff armor--dunno if it still does--and spell crit chance.

But if you have 100 Agility from armor in your humanoid form, you'll gain the benefit of that in your animal form. I don't think any of the forms reduce stats.

The only shapeshifting form that actually depends on the armor you wear is Bear Form. Bear Form increases the amount of armor you get from your... well, armor by 120%. So, if you're wearing a pair of leather pants with 100 armor rating, it will count as 220 armor rating when you're in Bear Form, reducing the amount of physical damage you take.

Of course, the majority of a character's attribute points come from the armor and weaponry they're wearing and it's the same for Druids. You can't go Cat Form while naked and do the same amount of damage you would do if you were wearing armor and weapons.
