Searching for this CLASSFollow

#1 Dec 13 2011 at 4:23 PM Rating: Default
hi all guys! i want to ask a quick question to the pr0s:
is there a class that has really few counters/cons(maybe important cons!but very few) and for the rest is nearly flawless? i mean a thing like the heavy of team fortress whose really counters are spy and snipers and if u put him in close range he has no rivals... or the siege engines from warcraft 3: they can't touch ground units but they do their specific job superwell(destroy buildings) and are very tough. hope the question isn't too strange

I take it you're talking about PvP, yeah?

Try a Frost Mage or a Death Knight.

The major downsides of any current flavor of the month is that soon enough, another flavor will end up featured on the display board. Don't pick the one that's on special, grab the one that you think is tastiest.

mmmm ok... but i don't want u to think i'm searching for the best class: i agree that the best class depends on who is playing it but i know that i like classes like the heavy from team fortress that putted in the right situation are very strong but u have to know how to create those situations... let's say druids for example are not this type of class because they can do pretty well in a lot of situations(i think)... we could say the same for the soldier from team fortress...do u get what i mean?

I think I get it. It seems like a legit question to me. You want something that is really specialized, right? You'll want to look at the "pure" classes, as it seems you're looking for dps. The pure classes are Mage, Hunter, Rogue, and Warlock.

I think you would like Rogue or Mage. Both are kind of "glass cannons" and have a ton of DPS potential. Rogues are melee DPS, so they do their damage up close and can stun-lock (keep the opponent from doing anything) in PvP. Mages do very high ranged damage, wanting to kill the opponent before it gets to him.

Now you talk about counters, but Blizz is really moving away from the rock/paper/scissors style of PvP, so you don't run into that as much.

Overall I'd suggest you try a rogue and/or a mage and see what you like!

A lot of classes have Frost Mages as serious counters. I don't know what it's like nowadays, but when Cataclysm launched and up to a few months ago, it was hilariously stupid how good Frost Mages were. Pretty much every patch saw some anti-root effect removed from another class and more damage added to Frost Mages.

Even Druids, the hard counter class to Frost Mages since I don't know, was bumped down in the food chain in one single patch with one single change: shapeshifting no longer breaks roots.

Sure, I can pop a trinket, Dash and Stampeding Roar to break three roots. Just a shame that Frost Mages have eight roots available.

Frost Nova
Freeze
Cone of Cold (talented)
Ice Barrier (talented)

That's four and Cold Snap makes it eight. Plus two stuns in Deep Freeze.

PvP is haaard. Smiley: crymore

I find PVP in an MMO to be silly. The fact that the classes are different inherently makes them unequal. A first person shooter with no classes is the best PVP to play. Each player is equipped with a set of pixels and raw ability. The only difference really is when you get your hands on a big gun... but really, that doesn't last long without skill.

i found i was searching for a "tank-mage"class... Like class-based systems, classless games have their own set of criticisms. One major problem is the tank mage syndrome. Even though a classless system typically restricts somehow the number or level of skills a player can have at any one time, the player can usually choose at least two, and some choose a defensive melee skill and an offensive spell skill. This takes advantage of the best defense and offense in the game, in effect turning a wizard from a powerful squishy into a nearly indestructible offensive cannon, and breaking the offense-defense inverse relationship considered central to balancing a game.

The closest thing you'll probably come to finding in WoW is either a Shockadin (more offensive-spec'd holy paladin) or an Affliction Warlock with survivability talents. The Balance Druid can also feel a little like that with Moonkin form...

However the Shockadin is hardly an offensive powerhouse (though it's plenty lulzy when fighting undead), and the Warlock has it's own set of weaknesses to deal with.

Death Knights can tank and cast more spells than the rest of the tanks, so arguably they're the Battlemages of WoW and the closest thing you come to a spell-casting tank.

It's too bad you can't really panzerkin much anymore. That was fun back in Kara.

Yeah, Shockadins are a lot of fun. It's too bad it's not a viable spec at max level.
