From MMO-Champion:
Quote:
* Pyroblast’s initial damage has been increased by approximately 26%, and its damage over time has been increased by approximately 100%.
* Fireball damage has been increased by approximately 17%.
* Living Bomb damage over time has been increased by approximately 10%, and explosion damage has been increased by approximately 120%.
I'm all for the increase in damage, but I really feel like it kinda missed the point. Still gonna be rng-lol-bursty, just higher rng-lol-bursty.

Edit: And I could be wrong, but I'm not so sure that'll do much to help scaling issues.

General reaction on the Oboards suggests I'm being pessimistic. It may be a big enough buff, though a few people seem worried about scaling like I am.

Others are posting things like this:

Prepare yourselves, the bells have tolled! Shelter your weak, your young and your old! Each of you shall pay the final sum! Cry for mercy; the reckoning has come!

I'll be honest, I really don't know much about fire beyond the basics when I was working on Alys. But I agree with you. Every complain I've ever heard about fire is how RNG it is due to trying to time ignite with Combustion. Doesn't look like any of those changes will affect that. The T13 4 piece might though. I can't remember exactly what it is off the top of my head, but when something happens, Combustion CD is reduced by 3 seconds, and I'm pretty sure the something happens fairly often. Should be really nice for Frost as well, as it reduces the CD of Icy Veins.

One shouldn't need a tier set to fix a class' mechanic problems. Smiley: tongue

The pyro DoT increase should be a nice improvement to combustion damage, though.

At this point, I'm happy with anything that's not a nerf. I love pyro. I have always loved pyro. My blood elf fire mage looks like Drew Barrymore. That's how much I love pyro. I'm happy with anything that lets me play it without being looked at like a disease-ridden slum queen during an instance.

And I weep for your soul if you don't understand the Drew Barrymore reference. L2The80s.

Oh I totally agree Pold. Blizz seems to think it's an acceptable thing to do in lieu of making changes that would seem out of the blue outside of a new expansion though. WTB Frost Orb from Diablo.

I was just thinking coefficient tweaks(either the damage spells do or to T1 Hot Streak) would allow more for scaling than a static increase. Not asking that they make life altering changes(maybe remove the proc aspect of cleaving with Impact).

Same thing happened w/ Ret. People complained about RNG and they 'fixed it' by increasing the damage. It's almost as if they are not listening.

Well, just increasing the damage is helpful and probably a lot easier than completely redesigning the way the fire rotation works. They'll probably fix it better for MoP.

Where the **** do you get this optimism? Fire has been rng based for a long time--it didn't start with Cata.

That's true, but it doesn't seem like it was nearly as bad during Wrath. Maybe that's because it was so strong for most of the expansion, so most people played it, but I don't remember people complaining about the RNG of fire back then.

I hear about it all the time now.

Fire wasn't really strong until the end, iirc. Arcane was a powerhouse for most of Wrath. Fire might have been top in Nax, though.

Fire was on top for Naxx and I believe Ulduar as well. Then Arcane was on top for ToC, partly because of the Incanter's Absorption gimmick on the twins fight. Also cause the fights were generally shorter. I'm pretty sure for ICC fire was back on top again, though I'll admit I didn't play much during the year ICC was out.

As I may have mentioned before, a fix to scaling would probably yield better results than a static damage increase, which I suspect is going to lead us to a point where arcane outscales fire again as we approach mid-HCs.

Something about haste.

I don't know what or why. I know Fire is all crit RNG happy *** times. But still I think haste somehow. Not sure why.

There's actually a lot to be said for stacking haste, considering the way more crit reduces the base procs of hot streak. I don't remember exactly how it maths out, though.

Q: How do I gear for Fire?
A: MOAR CRIT!

Q: Okay, I have all the crit I can get--now what?
A: LESS CRIT!

Q: Wait, but you, what?
A: MOAR HASTE!

Q: So I reforged to haste, now what?
A: MOAR CRIT!

Q: WHAT?
A: MOAR. CRIT.

Q: So... do I want some type of balance between those two?
A: NO!

Q: Why not?
A: MOAR CRIT!

Q: OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
A: PYROBLAST!

I have a feeling that trying to reforge gear as fire would make the Rawr tool very useful. =x

Except you could end up with Rawr telling you to continuously reforge a piece of armor back and forth between haste and crit. Smiley: lol

That would be... annoying. But this is why it's good to play with reforging and stat priorities in Rawr, before doing it in game!

It happened on my Druid.

Rawr told me to reforge some crit on a bracer to haste, then haste to mastery, then mastery to haste, haste to mastery and so on.

Isn't Rawr not fully functional for feral druids though? I know it has 100% functionality for mages, resto druids, boomkins, and a couple other classes/specs. Like I don't use Rawr for theorycrafting stuff for my priest, because it's only about 50% functional for shadow priests.

Rawr.feral is the core module, it's what Astrylian wrote Rawr for :P

(Yes, it is still updated regularly)
#25 Nov 09 2011 at 2:17 PM Rating: Good
Huh. I could have sworn one of the druid specs wasn't fully supported. Must be thinking of something else. =x

Rawr.tree was actually behind the curve for a while, items were implemented but they didn't have a good model to use for the optimizer. I think they fixed that just before 4.2.
