OK, I seem to be doing something horribly wrong when it comes to using these two to pull off the vanish and stay stealthed even though there were 50 dots and half a dozen incoming spells/arrows routine that I've had countless rogues pull on me.
/use Cloak of Shadows
/use Vanish
I set that up as a hotkey figuring CoS would wipe the dots while vanish would put me into stealth and keep me there even if I was in AOE or was being tagged - no such luck - so what am I doing wrong here?

I'm a bit confused. Are you still standing in AoE when you are taken back out of stealth? If so, just because you cloak and stealth doesn't mean you don't get taken back out by a new set of dots or AoE hits.
(Note that it has been a few months since I've been on WoW, so if there's any cloak or vanish changes I don't know about, then I apologize for my misinformation).

Oh no, trust me, I'm jetting as I hit it but no luck. I'm not under the delusion that it's a 100% assured escape but it would be nice for it to work at least once in a while.
Physical dots, flares, vanish being buggy as ****, you being a moron, take your pick of reasons that you fail as a rogue.

I think the problem with the macro attempts here was simply the use of "/use" rather than "/cast"
Other than that, can't tell from here whether those 2 spells are off the GCD or not. Might just have to hit the macro button twice.
Not sure why anybody would want a macro like that. With the initial immunity from Vanish, there is plenty of time to cloak if you actually need it. I find that most of the time I don't, and I'd be wasting a long cooldown if I had those 2 abilities tied together.
That said.. I made a Smoke Bomb/Vanish macro. Not trying to get anything accomplished with it, though, other than to entertain myself with the ninja-like effect :)
