im thinkin about tryin out smf cuz i cant decide now if i wanna go fury or arms for my pve spec at 85 but im only lvl 43.im thinkin about just buyin some 1 hand swords off the ah and tryin out smf when i get the talent single minded fury and see if i like it

ive never really gone fury ive only played arms pvp and prot but i heard arms really isnt gonna be as bad as i thought pve wise in 4.2 so i might end up just stayin with my pvp spec and using it for pve(i only plan on doing like heroics and crap anyway) and going prot

i just know the last time i followed fury you pulled really bad dps in really bad gear so i dont know if its worth tryin fury before 85 and when i get decent gear.i thought about buyin 2 of the 1 hand boa swords but they have agility on them and i thought agility was crap for a warrior

I believe I leveled my warrior up to 69 as Fury, and I used the two agility hammers (a little extra crit is better than nothing, and the extra weapon DPS made them better than any green I got questing). Once I hit 69 I spec'd TG and used the 2H heirloom axe plus whatever 2H I could pick up from running instances. BF > VR > BF > RB > BF destroys stuff at lower levels, plus I like Booming Voice for generating rage over Blitz.

actually from looking around it seems like landsouls saying tg is better then smf in 4.2

but i dont know, the 1 hand conquest point pvp swords look pretty badass(unless its gonna be impossible to get them due to the conquest point change, but i pvp pretty actively)and they cost less conquest points then getting 2 of the 2 hand axes

but i dont know, ive been kinda following more arms pvp and death knight stuff as far as 4.2 goes then dps warrior stuff.although as far as the conquest point thing does that really only effect rated bgs and arena cuz i dont do rated bgs or arena anyway i just queue up for regular bgs

but i know theres conquest point pvp gear that doesnt require arena or rated bg rating to get so i figured instead of using the honor stuff id just use that.although from readin somethin currently about that conquest point change,is that really only gonna effect people who do rated bgs and arenas cuz i only do regular bgs

Okay, so you are trying to decide between:

Prot spec and another to serve as both PvP/PvE

or

PvP spec and a PvE spec.

Let me say this off the bat, while Cata has reduced the difference between PvE and PvP specs (since you now HAVE to go 31 points in, and there are fewer talents to choose from overall), specs do generally vary by quite a bit between the two. By choosing to have one spec to service both roles, you are choosing to be underpowered in both roles. And if you intend to participate in endgame content (Raids or even heroics), you won't be warmly received without attempting to optimize your output.

Example:

If you go Fury, you're really going to want talents like Furious Attacks and Die by the Sword. Consider this PvP build. Now compare it to the Fury endgame build.

Blood Craze is a pretty good PvP talent, but only moderately goon in PvE (and that's only so as to take heat off of the healer). Luckily, Battle Trance isn't an amazing talent, so you COULD lose it without too much problem.

The loss of Executioner, though, is unacceptable in a PvE build. It's a great talent. But almost worthless for PvP. So that's a problem. And Piercing Howl is a wasted point if you consider PvE. Die by the Sword is absolutely required for PvP, but almost totally useless for PvE (because, unless something went SERIOUSLY wrong, you'll never be getting hit by parry-able attacks). Furious Attacks is useful on a few encounters in PvE, but that's it. But depending on your PvP goals, might be invaluable there. Though perhaps not if you are running arenas and have someone else providing the debuff. Meat Cleaver is necessary for a Fury build if they do any AoE (which they will). But largely useless in PvP.

And this, again, is only the points in the Fury tree--it doesn't even consider your last 10 points.

So, as you can see, it's going to be extremely hard to choose which talents to take and which to leave in a hybrid build. Because many of the choices are a significant loss if you intend to use the build for both.

Not to mention the fact that almost all of your glyphs will need to be switched for PvP and PvE, which is going to get extremely expensive extremely fast. You're looking at 60g just to switch specs.

The same is true for Arms, with one big exception. The actual points spent in the arms tree are largely the same. However, there are a few talents that PvP arms Warriors generally add to Arms (so it has more than 31 points) that PvE Warriors HAVE to place elsewhere or face a sizable DpS loss (Executioner and Incite being the most important).

If you are dead set on having a hybrid spec, go with Arms. You still have the same glyph issues, though.

That said, I heavily urge you to consider dropping the tank spec (assuming it isn't your main spec). Gearing in Cata takes time and effort--gearing two specs in PvE is a lofty goal. It's much wiser to choose PvE tank or DpS, and then go with a PvP spec. (Of course, this only applies if you want to PvP--someone who only intends to PvE will have more time to dedicate to gearing two specs).

One more note, though. I'm only talking about endgame. If you are only leveling, feel free to use a hybrid spec.

so instead of having a tank spec and spec for pve and pvp it would be better to just drop my prot spec and have a spec for pve and a seperate pvp spec?cuz i figured since i dont really play my warrior that often it would be faster to get a tank spec for when i hit 85 so i can get geared

and ya,i intend on pvping.i havent really been pvping lately though cuz i heard its better to pvp with throwdown and juggernaught cuz the last time i tried pvping i got stomped.i might end up queueing for a bg when i lvl though cuz i can get juggernaught now.and my main spec was gonna be eather arms or fury i was only gonna go prot cuz i figured since i dont really play my warrior much that having a tank spec would gear me faster

I really advise having separate PvE and PvP specs. If you want to have a tank, then make a Prot spec for PvE. I don't know how Prot stands in PvP right now, but I'm sure it has the same issues with a hybrid spec regardless.

To put it this way, you have two specs. There are three roles to choose from:

Tank PvE
Damage/Control PvE
Damage/Control PvP

You can only have 2. A hybrid spec isn't going to be sufficient to consolidate choices 2 and 3 into one.

Cata heroics can be pretty face-roll, but please do the rest of your group a favor and don't queue as a tank for heroics unless you (1) know what you're doing (more or less) and (2) have something resembling the gear for it. To some extent, you can make up for not knowing what you're doing with better gear, and skill can make up for some gear being lacking. DPS queues are under 10 min for normal heroics most of the time, so if you want to DPS, DPS.
