so,im not really used to pvping with classes that use pets

could i just put my water elemental on defensive and instead of doing what i usually do with pets and put it on passive and just target the thing i wanna attack and just click attack just do that so where whenever i attack something it would just start hitting it

was just wonderin cuz im thinkin about startin to pvp soon with my mage(plus i got tired of pugging heroics for jp,and i figured id enjoy it more if i just honor grinded the pvp heirlooms).i know there doing something with the agressive stance i think with pets but i dont think thats gonna be in until 4.2.i thought about just pvping without the water elemental but ive heard its pretty important to pvp with it

CrunkJuice7, the frost mage's water elemental is mostly just used as a distraction. Frost mages are meant to be harder to kill by having more defenses, and the pet goes along with that. You should use macros with the frost mage's attacks to change your pets stance and issue commands. Have you tried the mage macros at WoW Macros Guide? There is a long list of killer frost mage macros on there. They even have an article that teaches you how to use macros like a pro at http://wowmacrosguide.com

I know it's an old question, but since it didn't get an actual answer and got bumped, yes, the elemental is hugely important for PvP, not least of all for its "Freeze" ability which can be used in a number of ways, from controlling enemy movements to setting up burst chains. Its damage is not to be ignored either, as it can add up over longer fights with your enemies.
