What's the recommended levelling spec these days?

I just got my goblin rogue to level 10 (actually 11 now I think) and I'm not sure what to pick. I would prefer not to go Sub as I've never played the spec and I'm not sure I would know how.

Sub for PvP and zomgambush. Combat for PvE, definitely if you group a lot since combat is the only tree with some cleave.

Edit: nAs for how to play sub: (Premed >) Shadowstep > Ambush > Evis > win.

What he said was how I did it back in Wrath.

Leveled Cata as muti with all of the SnD/Recup talents, would just Muti to 4+ CPs, Rupture go to next mob. Maybe an extra Muti but stuff died and my buffs rolled.

I went combat.

I had an 80 rogue on Illidan but when I came back to the game I rerolled and wasn't sure if combat was still the way to go. I will say I am not a fan of the new Blade Flurry, although it has been useful a couple of times so far.

I am levelling 9 alts all at the same time (my DK is at 85 to be a farmer and help me support the alts) and ti has been very difficult to figure out what the best levelling specs are for some of the classes these days.

I finally settled:

Druid: Balance
Hunter: Beast Mastery
Mage: Frost
Paladin: Protection
Priest: Shadow
Rogue: Combat
Shaman: Enhancement
Warlock: Affliction
Warrior: Protection

The hard ones to decide on were the druid, rogue, and warlock.

I'm leveling Sub and loving it. It's really not hard at first so you can try it if you want. I gets a little more complex around the 50s when you start getting more skills to use like Cloak of Shadow, Deadly Throw...

But Sub, like some said is pretty much Shadowstep - Ambush - Eviscerate - dead (maybe adding a Permeditation or a Hemorrhage in there).
Stuff die in second but since Sub is very bursty it may get tricky in Cataclysm levels where mobs have a lot more health. But by that time you can easily dual spec to Assassination or Combat it you want.

on a side note here's my plan for my alts:

Rogue - Subtelty / Assassination - Skinning LW
Mage - Fire / Arcane - Tailor Enchant
Druid - Balance / Resto - Herb Inscription
Death Knight Frost / Blood - Mining JC

I threw a monkey wrench in all my plans by transferring 4 characters from my old server to my new server. i transferred an 80 rogue, 80 warrior, 80 paladin, and 70 shaman. I also hated 20 levels on balance druidity (like that word I just made up?) so I respecced him to feral and I'm loving it.

So my revamped plans are this:

Druid: Feral (dual spec will be a feral PVP spec)
Hunter: Beast Mastery (dual spec will be MM for dungeons)
Mage: Frost (dual spec will be Fire for dungeons)
Paladin: Protection (only 80-85, dual spec will be a ret PVP spec)
Priest: Shadow (dual spec will be a Shadow PVP spec)
Rogue: Assassination (only 80-85, dual spec will be Sub PVP spec)
Shaman: Enhancement (dual spec will be an enhance PVP spec)
Warlock: Affliction (dual spec will be a PVP spec)
Warrior: Protection (only 80-85, dual spec will be an arms PVP spec)

Of course, now that I'ev got 3 more characters to take from 80-85 and another to take from 70-85, the lowbie alts will most likely get ignored a lot. Although there is a chance the druid will get some play as I have had a lot of fun on him so far. I will also have more characters to do the daily random dungeon on so i can accumulate JP faster and possibly get a set of the caster heirlooms for the mage, priest, and warlock.

I have leveled Sub from 1 - 77 (where I currently sit). Doing PVP and PVE. None the less thanks for this thread as I was ******** up and doing:

(Premed) -> Shadowstep -> Ambush -> Kidney Shot -> Hemo*5 -> Evis

I will try dropping KS/Hemo and opening with Evis out of stealth when I get home. Maybe after a Hemo or two.

Regardless: Level with what you enjoy most. Personally I enjoy Sub, and PVP, so it made sense for me to level Sub. I tried Combat and have an off-spec Assassination, but I generally roll with Sub all the time.

I just hit 70 last night and I don't even bother with Premeditation much anymore. I currently have Initiative and Honor Among Thieves so just doing Ambush often gives me 4CP.

Whether it does or not I usually do Ambush -> Hemo (maybe x2) -> Evisc. dead.
But keep in mind I'm a few levels above my zone.

When I fight an Elite mob for group quests I usually go
Premed -> Shadowstep -> Ambush (though I'm starting to think I should do Garrote) -> Recup -> Evasion -> Hemo (till 5CP) -> SnD -> Healing Trinket -> Hemo (till 5 CP) -> Rupture
and cycle.

Initiative is one of the most worthless talents in Sub. Literally every other talent other than Enveloping Shadows is better than it (possibly Waylay too, if PvE is your primary focus).

I grabbed it at the beginning before I started looking into the various Rogue builds and I haven't respecced yet.

But wouldn't you say it has it's use while leveling before you get HAT? Certainly not for a raid build but while leveling.
I do both PvE and PvP but I haven't grabbed Waylay yet. Every time I look at my future respec I just don't know where to justify taking the points from.

I suppose while leveling, but I never leveled as Sub because it's highly impractical. Both Assassination and Combat will be far better.

But yes, before HAT or Premed, I can see the use, though I still wouldn't take it. There are far better uses of your talents (Elusiveness, Hemo, Energetic Recovery, Opportunity, Find Weakness, etc.). Initiative should be at best filler, but you don't need any filler points, really.

Note that the linked build is a PvE build, not PvP.

So, is Assassination not viable for leveling?

Everything is good for levelling, but knives are caster weapons and dinner utensils. Real rogues use axes, clubs, knuckles, and swords.

I just can't take a Rogue using a mace seriously. I fail to see how they eviscerate using those. And Slice and Dice doesn't even make sense.

I also despise Axes for anything but Trolls. Just seems so wrong.

But I begrudgingly accept other weapons.
