About 4.0.6 on the PTR:

Quote:
Discipline
Levitate now lasts 10 min, up from 2 min.
Power Word: Fortitude now costs 22% of base mana, down from 69%.
Power Word: Shield now scales from 87% of spell power, up from 41.8%. Base absorb increased by 110%, from 3906 to 8136. Now costs 25% of base mana, up from 19% of base mana.
Focused Will now reduces all damage taken by 5/10%, up from 4/6%.
Grace can now be active on multiple targets at a time.
Strength of Soul now also rpocs from Greater Heal and Flash Heal.
Pain Suppression no longer increases resistance to Dispel mechanics.
Rapture now energizes you with 2/4/6% of your total mana, up from 1.5/2/2.5%.
Atonement now affects a friendly party or raid target within 15 yards, up from 8 yards.
Improved Power Word: Shield now also increase the damage absorbed by an additional 15/30% when Power Word: Shield is cast on yourself.

At first I was all, ooooh, maybe time to try Disc yet again!

But then I saw this:
Quote:

Chakra's state now last 1 min, up from 30 sec.
Blessed Resilience now increases all healing received by 15/30%, up from 5/10%.
Holy Concentration now increases mana regeneration by 15/30%, up from 10/20%.
Surge of Light now also procs from Flash Heal and Greater Heal.

And I was all ooooh, maybe not!

Boo to the increased cooldown on Chastise though. BOO!

Putting the 'disc' back into 'PvP'.

Nice stuff. Holy didn't need those buffs, but hey, I won't complain. The SoS and SoL procs from Flash Heal and Gheal is a nice touch though, definitely makes our lives a bit easier. Decent disc buffs, but the PW:S one is definitely the major one. Note that that one isn't just for disc either - holy priests will want to use it on near-dead targets now as well. It's also a tiny buff to B&S.

All in all, great patch for us priests.

They definitely have evolved away from bubble spam, into bubble where needed, which is what they wanted. Smite heal covers more area. Nice buffs all around.

The tripling of Blessed Resilience’s effect certainly made me raise an inquisitive eyebrow. I’ll be interested to see if Echoes of Light double dips, ticking based on the 160% value of the direct heal, then getting boosted another 60%. That could add up to some crazy numbers, especially when Guardian Spirit and Test of Faith come into play, if it also double dips into their healing bonuses--imagine the crits! This could make mastery incredibly useful for PVP tanking.

The increase to Chastise’s cooldown is painful, but I guess going from 17.5 seconds to 21 seconds after Tome of Light is taken into account isn’t the end of the world.

The boost to Power Word: Shield is great for both specs. I might have to seriously consider dumping Twisted Faith and Veiled Shadows to pick up Improved Power Word: Shield and a little more Mental Agility. Let’s see...assuming I trade spirit for hit rating, I’d effectively lose 615 spirit and add one minute to my shadowfiend (which is mostly a mana restoration mechanic in my Holy PVP). Since the change to Holy Concentration should raise my mana regeneration while casting from 70% to 80%, that could work out okay, especially given the unreliability of the Shadowfiend in PVP.

Despite this being a definite boon, I sort of wish they had instead just increased the effects of Grace by a tiny margin.

I thought it was very cool how you could insta-stack grace with Penance. Looks like I wont be using Penance again -_-

I dumped Veiled Shadows and got the hit ring and a couple of hit gems instead, because I wanted to have some hit for the occasional Disc spec anyway. TBH I've noticed a lot more mana relief than I thought I would from putting those points on the Disc side instead. Given how many instants I cast, Meditation makes a huge difference, plus Archangel, though situationally useful, is great in those situations.

Thanks, good to know that it'll work out.

If you don’t mind a bit of advice...don’t gem for hit. Reforge for it. Gems are for things you can’t reforge for: stamina, spell penetration, resilience, and above all intellect.

Really? But what if I don't have a lot of stuff with stats I want to reforge? I suppose I could cut mastery and the rare piece with haste in half, but I've favored spirit so heavily in my buying choices that I probably don't have enough of those to get me to 4% hit. Given that we're probably getting the same general pieces (yours just being one tier higher), which particular ones are you reforging?

And no, I like the advice, good info is why I come here. I mean, first for the recipes, obviously, but then for the info. :)

Very happy with the changes, especially the ones to atonement, shield and holy concentration. Even reading the first change in the list to levitate had me happy for its usefulness with fishing! Ghostcrawler said we were a bit weak in PvP and there's a lot here to help. I really really shouldn't complain with such a good list of changes, but if they'd just taken the treat reduction out of pain suppression instead of the resistance to dispell mechanics...

I confused the PVP hit cap with the heroic hit cap. We need only 410 points of hit on our PVP gear to hit in ordinary circumstances.

With that in mind, here’s my plan to reach those numbers once the new patch hits and I spec out of Twisted Faith on my Holy build:

Vicious Gladiator’s Cord of Accuracy : +159 hit
Vicious Gladiator’s Cuffs of Accuracy: +134 hit
Vicious Gladiator’s Band of Accuracy (reforged to haste or spirit): +80 hit
Vicious Gladiatior’s Gavel (reforged to hit): +39 hit

Total +hit: 412

I did some rough math--forgive me for not showing my work--and calculated that in twelve seconds of plausible spamming of instant spells, I'd save 900 mana if I had a second point in Mental Agility. Over that same period, I'd regenerate about 334 less mana at my current gear level if I reforged 410 spirit into hit.

I don't spam instants all day, of course; Mental Agility's savings dry up when I'm casting Divine Hymn to save people who are out of LoS, or chaincasting my Flash Heal -> Flash Heal -> Greater Heal macro, or tunneling Mass Dispel or Mana Burn or whatever. But even so, I think I'll be OK with dumping Twisted Faith in favor of the new Improved Power Word Shield and a little more Mental Agility when the PTR patch goes live.[/i]
