Leveling: Ret or Prot?Follow
After your first day, what's your take on lvling speed with ret specs or prot specs? Anyone better?
Protection is chugging right along - very nice!
At 82 almost 83, now, I have sunk 7 talent points into Ret as well and now have Pursuit of Justice 2. I honestly feel that there is no way Ret could keep up as take 5-8 things at a time that I see others taking 1 of and getting down to half health.
Then again it'd be fair to hear the other side of the story from a Ret pally =)

Level 82 as ret. Seems fair, but I can see how prot would be faster with the number of spawns as they are now. I can take 2 or 3 at a time, though not preferably.

Just to finish up here I'll throw my personal opinions around - remember these are simply based on my experience as a whole.
Vash'jir: Prot > Ret
Hyjal: Prot > Ret
Deepholm: Prot = Ret
Uldum: Ret > Prot
Twilight Highlands: Prot > Ret
Tol Barad: Prot = Ret
I literally have zero experience questing as Holy so I cannot speak for it. I will say, also, that Protection continues to be easy-mode throughout all these zones more-so than Retribution, however Ret's killspeed on 1 or 2 targets vastly exceeds Protections near the closing levels of 84-85.
Regardless, this whole expansion seemed pretty easy as either. If one ain't workin' give the other a try, but both should get you through =)

I guess it must depend of the server or playtime, but I have tried doing my questing as both Prot and Ret, and Ret has been far and away the faster experience. With Word of Glory and a buffed Holy Light after killing something, I've have very little, if any, downtime as Ret. Also, I seem to always be leveling alongside numerous people, so rounding up a lot of enemies with Prot isn't always a viable option.
At 77 i am prot and have been from the start, i can easily if not preferably take on 2-5 mobs at once
with bit over 20k armor my dmg reduction is around 58% and my dps is far from bad, at 67 i was dealing
with 2-4 mobs at the beach outside Valiance keep and ending the fight at 90%+ hp, my frost mage had problems
with one mob at the time :) i was fighting the humanoid mobs and there level is 68-70.
Currently at 20400armor and 23k hp my gear is mostly created by myself(525 mining and 480 bs)

Please check the last posted date and the context in which the thread was made before posting. It's been over 2 months, and he was talking about Cata leveling. I'm glad you wanted to help and have been having a good experience leveling as prot, but this kind of post is what's called a "Necropost" and is usually frowned upon. Just letting you know now before you are rated down on any more posts in the future.
