Prospective HunterFollow

Hey guys,

I've been playing WoW on and off since vanilla, but took a long break over WotLK. With the launch of Cataclysm I'm thinking of returning and leveling a new character up to see all the new content etc. I was wondering what you think of Hunter!

I've been researching all the new changes to Hunter, and personally, I think they sound absolutely awesome. The new pet abilities, focus, no arrows - it all seems to be a nice change to me. But when I got on the forums all I have seen is whining about lack of dps, lack of PvP survivability and so on, and I was wondering if you think this is true?

I am quite a casual player, but my main focus is PvP. I'm looking for a class that will be easy/fun to level, will have no problem finding spots for Rated BGs, hold its own in arena and hopefully still squeeze into a PvE raid or two. Is hunter the class for me?

Basically, in short, will Hunter (with all the new changes) be able to top dps charts and dominate in PvP? Or have the new changes killed their old appeal?

Thanks!

As of right now (pre-Cata) our PvP abilities are far behind those of other classes, but you need to realize the game is being scaled for level 85, not 80. As for our dps it isn't bad right now, but it's not the "top dps" class. When it comes to arena we have never been one of the best arena classes, but who know how it will be in Cata.

All in all asking if hunter will be the best dps and most OP pvpers is not a fair question since so much will change by the time Cata balances out. Until then don't get use to anything. The best advice I can give is to try one out and figure out if you like it. No one here can tell you if you will like a class or not.

Thanks for the advice, I totally understand what you mean.

In your opinion, what would be the most well rounded PvP class? I think that might be a better question. I'm not looking for an OP class that can faceroll and get kills, but just one that can do some good damage and can really come out top in BGs and duels etc.

I'm a pretty casual player, but I would consider myself a hardcore PvPer in any game I play. With the new Rated BG system and everything I want to get back in the PvP swing of things in WoW and give it a shot. I live in South Africa and so my ping is on average probably 300-400, so range classes are usually my best option in terms of gameplay as the 'You are out of range' when it looks like I'm on top of the person in melee is incredibly irritating.

Hunter looked like an interesting change, but if you have any other suggestions I'm more than happy to listen! :)

And I would preferably like to play a Goblin if that helps! :)

Warlocks are a good option for PvP. The combination of the DoT, CC, and pet make them a very nice PvP class. They also perform well in PvE content with very good raid dps and good CC.

I can agree with this. I rolled a lock with the idea of her being my PvP-ing toon. She hit 45 last night.
I don't play on her much, but I do enjoy her inside the BGs I have to run (WSG and AB).
She is affliction, and I usually play on the Defense side. DoTs, Fear, and Cure of Exhaustion (slows peeps down by 50%) is pretty fun.
