So after a few hours of testing different forging combos, gems, specs, pets, etc..

SV Build
Pure AGI / a few agi+crit gems for my yellow slots. 8hit, 17% haste, 54% crit, 289 mastery.
Random burst of 8k on dummy, but usually sitting around 6k after rapid fire wears off and no trink procs.
Pet: Cat (155agi)

MM Build
With same stats as above, hitting about 6.6k with burst of 7kish.

Switched to a more haste centered build, agi+haste gems for my yellow slots, reforging crit to mastery in place of haste:
Hit around 7.7k in bursts but doing a consistent 7.4k. Most damage came from auto, steady, and wild quiver if I remember right.
Pet: Cat (155agi) / Raptor (armor reduction)
I actually did a bit more on average with the raptor sometimes, but without really looking too hard at recount (it was late and I was tired), I can't really come to a conclusion about it.

BM build
8hit, 17% haste, 49% crit, 300+ mastery
Bursting over 8.5k and sitting around 7k when BW is down.
Pet: Devilsaur (5% crit)

So just a rough overview, nothing really solid but these are my average findings with each spec. BM is definitely doing the highest burst dps for me, while MM is doing more consistent DPS. I've heard people saying MM is still top dog, but with how short boss fights are now; I think BM better suits boss fights for me. I've actually been going SV for trash (serpent spread + multi is the most godly AoE we have right now) and switching over real quick to BM for bosses.

How have your meters been treating you guys/gals?

edit* I'm using log splitters to get my stats perfect currently. I'm going to swap my T10s back in when I have some energy to rework everything and test with the 4pc bonus. The 20% AP proc might push BM even higher. I'll try to get an actual parse log up in a couple days.

On dummies on BM I was getting around 6.5k. I was a lot lower then I switched my pet to my 80 wolf instead of a 77 and I went up about 1k. Survival I'm still trying to get the hang of. Still around 6k though. Haven't specced into MM yet, I'm going to try not to because I really don't like MM.

I have only done 1 dungeon and that was H ToC and I did about 7.5k on the black knight. I haven't been able to play much lately and won't for awhile still.

So do hunters suck now, do you guys suck or have the numbers not gone up at all in the last 6 months since I quit?

Hunters suck right now. Well there are QQ posts all over the oboards. But our damage for 80 got nerfed worse than was in WotLK. Which will change once we get 85. Some hunters are still able to pull out pretty good numbers but they are also people with full 277 gear. I myself only have an ilevel average (from blizzard ui) of 260. So maybe it's already better balanced towards their gear.

I must be doing something wrong, then. I'm SV, average ilvl 255-260 or so, and I'm up about 10% on single-target fights. And I'm still using BA instead of launching traps, and there's something wrong with my old Power Aura setup for it because I'm getting about half the LnL I did before the patch.

Might be because I never got the right trinket setup to fully gear out ArP.

As of right now I believe the DPS order has SV as the highest. I also don't think trap launching is viable at all, except in AoE situations. (There was this brief, crazy moment where I contemplated *not* picking up BA in favor of shooting Immo Traps at people, but then I realized that Immo hits like a girl compared to BA and calculates based off of spell hit)

As for LnL, it does seem to be proccing less often. But random proc chance is random. In unrelated news Frost Trap got renamed. (Took me forever to figure out why my Trap Launcher -> Frost Trap macro didn't work. It's called Ice Trap now.)

Anyways, most of the QQ from Hunters stems from one of two things:

1) Focus is hard, mmmkay?
2) Our overall DPS has remained relatively the same--in that you went from ArP Marks to Agility SV (The way god intended). But the problem is while our DPS remains constant-ish, other classes gained ridiculous bonuses. (Like DK ghouls pulling 4-6k by themselves.) So overall our position on the charts has changed.

Also the collective "everyone" has advocated mastery stacking for SV. I've tried it out and (I know), anecdotal evidence is anecdotal, but I can't seem to make it work for me. Pumping mastery in lieu of haste drops dummy DPS by 1-1.5k. I don't think such a huge drop can be overcome with 25-man buff scaling.

Yes I'm quite sucky.

The real change though is armor pen not existing anymore. MM can't put out the crazy numbers it did before. I feel like in longer fights like ICC bosses I do much better than short fights like heroic bosses. Warriors, DKs, and other run in and smash classes just put em down before I have a chance to build any momentum.

I've talked with some hunters on my server who are much more active/geared than I am and they aren't out doing me by much, so imo something is wrong. Cobra shot will help a lot for SV, but what about the MM hunters?

I was wondering as to what gems everyone is using and how they reforged. I personally tried as MM agility in red, agility/crit in yellow, and hit and agility/hit in blue. I havn't played with reforging much yet, but I did reforge my extra hit into Mastery.

i actually got better results with mm with agi+haste for yellow slots and reforging crit instead of haste. I think it helps with activating wild quiver as you get a lot more auto shots in.

*edit for MM

Luckily as of a blue post hunters are going to have their signature shots increased, ie. KC, Chimera, and Explosive. This should help boost numbers and also give reason to actually use Chimera and Explosive shot.

Our guild's resident hunter is also complaining, mainly about focus. He used to top every fight convincingly, but since the patch he's more like the fifth or sixth person to get bitten on BQL. From what I've got from what he's conveying, the problem is that you basically need one Steady Shot for whatever other ability you want to use, often resulting in a rather lame Steady Shot>X>Steady Shot>Y>Steady Shot>Z style of rotation that's extremely non-reactive.

I could be wrong though.

For most of the specs you usually steady to regen until you can fire your big shot. In the case of BM it's like Serpent -> Kill Command -> Arcane til empty -> steady until Kill Command -> arcane til empty or reapply serpent if it falls off or is about to.

He's not doing it right.

If he's mm he wants to use at least 2 steadys at a time to get improved steady shot for the haste buff.

Sweet, thats exactly how I have been doing it. Seemed intuitive to me but maybe not for some.

It's still in. Use it when you have a focus fire proc, but don't use it, from what I've heard. If you use focus fire then use bestial wrath you steal your pets attack speed bonus. So use it when Focus Fire procs, but don't use FF.

I hate typing FF because I still think of it at Faerie Fire.
