Evening everyone,

I am quite confused with this spell. From what I have read from forums, its unless. Is it worth speccing this for raids?

Another question is do we replace flash heals with heal now which cost less mana.

Also would be great if you could kindly explain as to how a Disc priest can heal with the new patch. Same or has to be altered. Can a Disc priest be able to heal in raids now. Looks more pvp to me.

I am very very confused now.

Hope you gurus will be able to shed some light to this.

Thank you

Disc priests could heal raids before, and they still can now. For now, you can basically do everything like you were used to - you won't need to start using Heal until Cataclsym, though it's a decent spell in some situations now.

PW:B is indeed useless. I've picked it up because hey, why not, but if you really want to min/max your spec for the couple of weeks to come, I suppose you don't have to pick it up.

It's become pretty clear that for the next couple of months, we've all become beta testers for the new trees and mechanics. Things are very fluid right now with regard to damage, talents and spells for all classes and specs so any advice given today may become completely inoperative tomorrow. It's a good thing to keep in mind moving forward from here.

I would expect PW:B to be fixed at some point although I've heard a few reports from the beta that the spell is better there given mastery and a very different damage environment than what you find in WoLTK WoW. It's possible that PW:B is a spell that really doesn't come into it's own until one is well past 80.

It's also pretty clear from reading forums other than the Priest forums at Zam that people don't know what to make of a lot of the changes, especially the various ongoing series of buffs and nerfs so there's a lot of bad information floating around. Best to be patient, do your own practical theorycrafting by going out into the world as it is and trying stuff out to find out what works and what doesn't.

I emphasize 'the world' as opposed to just relying on training dummies. My own class (shadow priest) is in the middle of a large...discussion I guess would be the polite word...about the usefulness of SW:D, which lately redefined as a true execute behaves quite differently depending on target health. That's difficult to test on training dummies that essentially, don't die.

So go have fun, play and share your thoughts and experiences.

Sorry for going off on a tangent from your original question. It's 9:00 a.m. here, I'm having my first cup of coffee and feeling philosophical.

Hah. You can say that again.

Thanks guys, Just did a normal run on HOL. Seems ok to me so far. Popped the barrier on the last boss just to see how the effect was. Not amazed by it but seems to look good. Can only say when I run heroics. Still 79 atm with just 4 bars to hit 80.

One thing though, I don't seem to lose much mana as before. Used POM, Shields, Flash heals, renew and prayer of healing. Looking good so far.

Just my observation of a normal run.

Once again thanks guys for the help. I am still wonder how in the world I am gonna smite and heal at the same time. :)

Cheers

PW:B stands for Pretty Weak Barrier.

I'm kind of surprised at the overall spell..

If it stays as is the CD needs to drop. The spell isn't well tuned at 85 from what I gather either.

Cataclysm beta:

Power Word: Barrier duration reduced to 10 sec, down from 25 sec. No longer absorbs a given amount of damage, now reduces all damage done to friendly targets by 30%. While within the barrier, spellcasting will not be interrupted by damage.

I feel 10 seconds is too short.

Really Dada? Before this change, a well placed PW:B would've dissipated within ten seconds anyway. More like within one second, but you get the idea.

This is an awesome change though! Priests are now officially the only class with an AoE tank-style cooldown at their disposal. The new barrier is effectively a group-wide pain suppression.

There's only two downsides to the change: our mastery is now even more worthless, and I don't get to call it Pretty Weak: Barrier anymore.

This plus PS is pretty awesome-sauce.

Damage reduction CD's up the wahzoo is good and makes sense for the design of the spec as a damage reducer and mitigator.

Would have been nice to have when Loken was still a challenge for sure.
