I havent played my Mage in over a year now and the game in general for 6 monthes so with the new expansion coming I thought I'd give my heals a rest for awhile and try my Mage again.
Looking at posts here and on Elitist Jerks theres a lot about whats coming in Cata but not to much up to date stuff about now which is what I need to know to reset my Mage back up.
A lot of the info posts on both sites is dated 2009.
Looking at her tonight she's still in Arcane spec, 57/3/11, so not sure if that is the best for pve and instances at the moment as raiding wont be happening until after Cata is released.
I guess spell rotations will be dependent on what the current spec is, I dont know if the hit cap has changed but I'am assuming that its still the number one stat to have like any class that has hit in it.
Arcane used to be a mana drain and if I'am not casting I'am not dps'ing so I dont know if theres a happy medium there anymore.
Gear wise probaly best not to worry to much about new stuff now until the expansion so thats not a biggie.
Oh and addons, whats best to use these days?
Any link to anything that is still current and not dated would be great or just a reply in general if someone has the time.

can you post your armory for us?
A lot of the info still works, if you aren't in T10 gear you will probably still be arcane and all of the advice in that arcane thread still applies.
If you came here getting ready for 4.0.1 (released probably next Tuesday) stay tuned as there are a lot of class changes coming. I'm guessing the new PvE specs for 4.0.1 will be fire, arcane, and also frost. Frost was changed/buffed multiple ways to make it more PvE viable for Cata and a lot of people are talking about speccing for it. I'm not quite sure yet about proper rotations/etc for 4.0.1 as there is a ton of conflicting information and patches keep getting put on the PTR for testing which changes priorities sometimes significantly.

I leveled as Frost in the beginning and changed to Fire for raiding as a guild request at the time.
Back then this was the way to go.
I changed to Arcane during Naxx to try it out, lost interest and then leveled my Priest up to ICC standard to try out healing and took a break from the game and have now decided to brave the kiddie factor and am coming back to play.
Is the hit cap still around 370, I think with food I was able to reach this with what I had.
I was looking at buying the Bejwelled gear and Merlins Robe to come up to speed a bit but again with the expansion coming maybe its best to wait and save my gold?
I also saw an old UI of yours Anobix on Elitistjerks, mid last year I think it was, have you posted a newer one since?
I cant search the site so I couldnt find another one.
Heres my armory remembering what I had was good at the time and I did change to my Priest to further my progression.

ps...actually its been more than a year since I played my Mage, I got her ready for when Naxx was the new boy in town but never took her through it, I leveled my Hunter instead and then went to my Priest.
So it may be 2 years since I've played Mage so its going to be a bit rusty.
