Was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a good pve frost spec. My wife just dusted off her mage and wants to try frost. I dont know a thing about mages so I came here to ask. Thanks
Well she was getting impatient so I did some searching and found her a spec that seemed to be popular. 20/0/51 is what we went with, but everyone I saw with that spec had glyphs that didnt seem to make much sense. Again I dont know a thing about mages. Everyone had glyph of evocation in the first slot, ok so hp regen is nice. Then it was either glyph of mana gem or glyph of poly. Third glyph was always glyph of ice barrier. 3 glyph slots for a dps spec that do nothing to increase dps?? Is that right? Ive played an ele shaman, a hunter, a ret pally, and even a boomkin once, and they all used their glyphs to increase their dps. Why not frost mages? Do their choices for glyphs suck that bad, or is there some other reason?

You might be looking at pvp mages. That's what it sounds like. I copied my frost spec (mostly) from one of the top frost dps mages from world of logs, so you can take a look at my spec if you want.

Thanks for your spec and glyphs.. Its not much different from what I found for the spec, but the glyphs make much more sense. Also what would the standard rotation/priority be for frost?
I don't play it often, mostly for farming and sometimes H Sindy, but it's basically deep freeze when it's up, frostbolt spam, CDs (mirror image/icy veins) when I have iceblock/coldsnap up (this is for H Sindy. I think Jay has a frost pve post somewhere down the page that might tell you how to better use your CDs on another boss). And Frostfire bolt when I get my brain freeze proc.
Some folks try to time the deep freeze for when fingers of frost procs, I think, but I don't bother. Same with ice lances, I think some folks try to sneak one in at the end of two frostbolts when FoF is up, but I think that's only a dps increase when you can pull it off each time (have low latency, etc).

Is frost really beneficial to the Sindy fight? I have to switch from tanking back to my mage and was wondering if that was worth a respec. Is there any other tips (Frost armor vs.molten) you could give for this encounter. (Sorry about the hijack) Da Schnit.
Frost isn't really beneficial to any raid fights, you are better off playing a real dps spec like Arcane or Fire. If you end up dying on Sindragosa it is because you messed up or your healers did.
There should never be an argument to not use Molten Armor for any of the specs.

Meh, I do about the same dps on that fight as fire and frost, since my fire dps is higher than frost, but frost allows me to dps through 1 more unchained than fire does. I thought that frost would help my survivability on our attempts before our first kill, but it really didn't. So I went back to fire and was fire when we got our kill. I believe we added an extra healer for our kill.
edit: yeah, I use molten armor with both.

The unchained thing is nice, that's for sure, I can use two iceblocks for H Sindy. I only use it on the first unchained of a phase (as the second one was right before a lift-off), and only on the first or second ground phase (generally only on the first) so that I can use it in P2/P3 (depending on what you call >35%) so that I can keep dpsing when the dps actually matters as the fight is hardly a dps fight.
We use 8 healers btw. (or 7+ an offspec/etc)
Certain forum posters have dedicated their mage's raiding lives to frost, and have written full FAQ's / Guides for Frost. You need only look at the stickies to find it....
