Spirit Beasts losing [Spirit Strike] in Cata?Follow

So if I understand correctly, Blizzard are reworking Hunter pets so that none of their special abilities are damage-dealing. Which means that Spirit Beasts will lose their Druid-like [Spirit Strike] and gain, instead, a healing ability.

I didn't come here to QQ, but I can't help but be disappointed. I'm sure that raiders and people who party/dungeon a great deal will enjoy the changes to pets, however. Every pet is getting some sort of "species-specific" buff/debuff, meaning that now Hunters won't be "required" to bring a wolf to every single event.

Overall the changes are great, even though spirit strike was really 'cool'

Now hunters are going to be required to have a specific pet on hand in case the raid doesn't have a certain kind of buff/debuff.

I have little use for a heal spell from my pet, as I mostly solo/duo.
It's a bit of a shame, as the ranged Spirit Strike was a great opener and a great way to pull from quite a long distance. It was also, as a soloer, a great way to avoid pulling every mob in a group.

So, I can see that the pet changes may be good for some players, in the long run, I suspect they will be bad for players like myself.

I'm more speaking in general terms about the pet changes, rather then the specific change of spirit strike being lost. That said, I don't understand why you need a ranged pet pull. You're a hunter, if you want to pull use a low/no damage shot and your pet will take aggro easily once it's out of the group. Or use MD.

Wouldn't a heal be more useful when you're soloing stuff, then in a group with a healer?

I think you missed my mention that Spirit Strike extends my pulling range... I can send my pet to where I can't shoot an arrow, and have my pet then use ranged SS.

Does the heal work on the pet or the Hunter?

I guess if it works on both, it increases the pet's survivability in PvE (assuming AOE crap doesn't still one-shot non-tanks), and it would increase the Hunter's survivability in PvP (assuming the heal is any good).

Still, non-BM pets seem kinda weak as it is, I'm wondering what a non-DPS focus dump will do to their output.

Sounds like a good thing to me as that elevates hunters above simple "ranged dps."
