Need to get Pally heroic-ready (at 80 now) (was forum=21)Follow

Ok. I'm now level 80 on the Pally.

At first I couldn't get into ANY heroics. Nor reg TOC or any of the ICC 5-mans.

I had to buy her a couple pieces of ilvl 178 pieces (only about 15g apiece) and now I can get into reg ToC and the first reg ICC. And all the heroics except ToC and ICC.

However, what stat should I be concerned about before I get into heroics? Hit? What's the hit cap for a ret pally? I'm a pitiful 25 right now. :(

I forget what the hit cap was when I was ret spec'ed. I think it was around 18% or so? I could be wrong though. Just get the bare minimum for hit required for like ICC 10 man and you'll be fine. But make sure your crit strike is good too sucks if you can hit, but it doesn't do much. Also focus on haste rating as well, gotta get them hits out fast too ya know...something else I was gonna say...collect off-spec gear, prot or holy, up to you. But most raiders like hybrid classes for that purpose, they are a hybrid they aren't just a straight DPS class.

Hit cap is 8% (about 260 hit rating). You can get away with less when starting out especially if you have a draenei in the party.

Expertise soft cap is 6.5%. Getting this up will decrease the chance mobs can parry and dodge your attacks.

You want to stack Strength. This stat will give you the highest increase in dps. Gem for it. Other noteworthy stats are Crit (DOn't gem for it but Strength/Crit gems arent bad if you're trying to fulfil socket bonuses), Haste (increases your melee swing and stacks Seal of Vengeance/Corruption quicker), Armor Penetration (Good for Warriors and Deathknights but really awful for Ret Paladins. Avoid it when possible).

If you have the gold to buy more gear go for it. Farming the items needed for recipes is also another option if you can't afford to purchase them. The quicker you can use the LFD system the quicker you can save up Triumph/Frost emblems to buy Tier 9 and 10. Until then try and get friends or guildies to run you through regular ToC5, Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron and Halls of Reflection.
