What is the hit cap for combat spec?

Special attack cap is 8%
Spell and poison cap is 17%
DW Auto attack cap is 24%

Subtract 5% for Precision.

I thought dw cap was 27% vs raid boss?

Yeah, since you add 3% to bosses.

(24% + 3% = 27%)

8% is the special attack cap vs bosses (5% vs 80, + 3% = 8%).

Hey all, kinda need your advice regarding today's raid hit/expertise mechanics. (Just took up WoW again, and the last time I raided was during the Nax days of Wrath)

Read through couple of entries in the forum, including Theo's compendium, and was wondering about Hit/Expertise...

Based on my understanding of the mechanics of hit/expertise in Wrath:
- sufficient expertise to ensure 0% dodge from the bank of raid bosses
- sufficient hit to ensure poison cap

Does the above still apply in today's raid ?

Right now, my char has enough expertise whereby the stat log shows 0% dodge chance. Also, I currently have 433 hit rating (still below I presume), whereby
- 0% miss chance on special attacks (yellow)
- 6.77% miss chance on spell (poison)
- 17.39% miss chance on normal (white)

My assumption is that I need to gem for hit to ensure 0% miss chance on poison. Is it correct? I discussed with couple of my friends and read some forum/blogs... but some people are saying that its not worth gemming hit/expertise no more, rather do agility... I have a feeling that its not true, but would like to check with more rogues.

PS: I'm currently spec into Combat ^^

You're Combat, you don't really need to be spell hit capped. Sure it would be cool but more haste and crit will do more for your overall damage.

Expertise cap is still good for Combat as long as you aren't gimping your other stats, yet not Muti as they get more from other stats. Namely Spell Hit, haste and mastery as they feed poison damage.

Sub wants yellow Hit, Expertise cap, then to get as much Agi and haste as humanly possible.

This link will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about playing combat.

You will be the best rogue in your guild if you read all of that until you understand it and are able to perform once you have the knowledge.
